When a person catches HPV what are there chances of getting cervical cancer?

I mean if they catch HPV, not if they catch genital warts. Are there chances 1 in 100 of it turning into cancer? 1 in 1000? I read 2 girl's diaries online and they both have cervical cancer. If my boyfriend breaks up with me I am defiantely going to get the the Gardasil vaccine before having sex.

Jesus Christ people, if you don't have anything good to contribute don't leave comments. Thanks Bettyna though. I know that it doesn't prevent every type of HPV, just 4 of them.

Just so u kno the vaccine doesnt protect ALL HPV( types of cervical cancer) it only protects like 4 or 6 and their are a bunch. Its probably 1 in 100. But it can still turn into cervix cancer with the vaccine.

hope this helps =)

thats the last of your problems, think about living

According the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that about 11,000 women will be diagnosed with new or recurring cervical cancer cases this year alone.

Since about 20 MILLION people are currently diagnosed as having HPV and an additional 6 million are diagnosed every year, the relationship between having HPV and actually getting cervical cancer is still pretty slim.

That being said however, it is NEVER a good idea to skip getting pap smears annually. I skipped only TWO years and ended up with full-blown cervical cancer. It took me over 6 months of treatment to be termed "remission" and I still go in every 6 months for a pap. It's been 11 years and I'm still cancer-free....but one can never be too careful.

If you have questions, do your research and DO ask your doctor. Remember: there are no dumb questions. The dumb-factor comes in to play when a question remains unasked.
