Im 23, just diagnosed with cervical cancer what to expect?

Hello, I am 23 years old and just recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. It is reccomended for me to get a hysterectomy and go thru chemotherapy. I am being referred to a specialist. Im very overwhelmed and don't know what to expect with any of this.

Hi, so sorry to hear you have cervical cancer, I understand how overwhelmed you must feel to get this news, a member of my own family unfortunately had cervical cancer, just a few years ago, and she was about your age, but the good news is, she is now o.k. and cancer free. If you feel you would like to get a 2nd. opinion on this, you are more than entitled to. As to what to expect, it varies in different people, I understand you will feel very tired, in this case drink lots of water, as if you are dehydrated it only adds to tiredness, eat well, especially high protein foods, this will help to keep your body strong. As you are having chemotherapy, a good choice is to cut your hair before having the treatment, this will spare you the distress of seeing your hair gradually fall out. I wish you all the very very best.

Well just beware when you go through chemo you might lose all of your hair so the most imptant thing to remember is Ddon't worry what anyone thinks.I got the shot. You should have too.

The link above has valuable information on what it is you will be facing in the months to come in regard to your newly diagnosed cancer. i understand the need to be fully informed of what you are personally going through as well as any treatment options that are availble to you at this time; and, I feel you should start this journey off right by thoroughly immersing yourself in what it is that you will be undergoing that will effect a positive cahnge in your personal health status.

Back in July and August of last year, I was also in the same boat as you ae, at 42 that is, with an initial diagnosis of cancer (breast cancer). After reading extensively into my diagnosis, getting involved in my own treatment protocol, after finding some things erroneous, ...and doing first, second, and third opinions, I finally got it RIGHT: my grade three poorly differentialed and infiltrating 6.8 cm breast lesion has been completely erradicated via pre-surgery / neoadjuvant chemotherapy. I now look forward to making a sound decision regarding the completion of my treatment plan with no worries.

Please. Educate yourself for your long fight ahead and you won't be sorry you did! <smile>

Good Luck.

Keep in mind that cancer issues vary from one person to the next. It's a totally mind boggling disease.

Hi Sweetheart,

Cervical is one of the easist cancers to treat if caught early enough.
I take it as you are having a hysterectomy it has spead alittle bit....

I am sure you will be ok, it might be a hard road for a little while, but i am hope all goes ok xx

I'm so sorry to hear this...

Just a few suggestions...

Make sure to ask your doctor TONS of questions.

Bring someone close to you to your appointments to take notes to help you remember the mounds of information you will receive.

Like most have said, do research, understanding what is going on can give you a feeling of control which may help :)

Get rest, keep a healthy diet, surround your self with loved ones. Take care!

My daughter who is 26 has just been diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer .Surgery was not an option or treatment for her ,she has to have chemo and radiation treatments for a period of time.We saw the Dr. today and she has to have a PET scan on Monday and be tattooed the same day to mark where the cancer is to be treated she will have 2 49 hr.stays in the hospital at that time she will have internal rods inserted and radiation will be attacking the cancer directly. Her Dr sounds real convincing and positive about her out come also the Dr said her hair would thin but she would not lose it.People love horror tales but don't listen to it listen to your Dr he knows best ,Good Luck and God Bless If you would like to talk you can instant message me its on my profile
