Does genital warts lead to high risk cervical cancer. I'm hearing yes and no which is the truth?

Does genital warts lead to high risk cervical cancer. I'm hearing yes and no which is the truth?

First of all, Herpes and HPV are two different viruses (correcting a previous answer).

HPV causes genital warts, but the high risk strains of HPV that tend to lead to cervical Cancer generally don't produce visible symptoms. So since HPV can cause both genital warts and cervical Cancer, that is probably where your confusion is coming from.

A doctor can test (women only) to see if you have a high risk strain. Hope that helps!

yes it does, get checked often.

it depends which kind you have..if you have high risk type it can..if you have a low risk type it cant..from what the doctor told me..if you can see your warts its probably a low risk type.

The warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) there are many different strains. most wll usually go away with no long lasting effects but if they are caused by strains 6, 11, 16, and 18, there is an increased risk of cancer. These are the strains that the vaccine is supposed to protect against.

-herpesvirus causes cold sores and genital herpes ( sores not warts)

genital warts can lead to cevica cancer ... if you or someone you know or suppects you have it see you gyn asap theres no cure but docs can do regular screening for cervical cancer

No, the strain of HPV that causes genital warts is different from the one that causes cervical cancer.
HPV(Human Papillomavirus) is broken into 2 categories the high risk and the low risk. Low risk types cause warts; High Risk types cause cancer. It is also common for one person to have both low and high risk. Although warts are annoying they have no significant health risk and can be removed.

Yes, the same virus that causes genital warts can cause cervical cancer. It's called Human Pappiloma Virus(HPV). Not all strains of the virus cause warts and not all strains cause cervical cancer. A biopsy of the cervix can tell the doctor which strain someone may have and what complications it may lead to.

There are four strains of HPV, the virus group that can cause genital warts, that have been linked to changes in the cervix. Cervical cancer can be caused by other factors (genetics, environmental exposures, etc.) but these four strains have been clearly linked to a higher risk of cervical cancer. Even if you have one of them, it's no guarantee you will get cancer. Get checked regularly and you should be fine. If you already have HPV, there may be no point in getting the vaccine. If you don't, it may be worth looking into. It's expensive though, $150x 3 shots unless you're a girl in grade eight.

The HPV virus can cause cervical cancer in some cases. Some strains are considered "low risk", they do not cause cancer. "High risk" strains do. You should talk to your doctor about your case, and get screened for cervical cancer. Good luck!

it is believed that certain strains (16 an 18) can increase the risk of cervical cancer, there are lots of different strains (not 4 as the nursing student said) but nearer 40 in humans, of these 16 and 18 are strongly linked to cervical cancer, and also another 15 strains have potential to be high risk.

so yes some genital warts can increase the risk of cervical cancer, just make sure you have your smear test

There's a little confusion right now.

Genital warts is caused by the herpes virus -- there are two types -- one results in cold sores on the outside of your lip, and the other results in genital warts. I've not heard anything about it resulting in high-risk cervical cancer.

HPV can result in cervical cancer... but there are SO MANY types of HPV, that it's possible one of the types will have the symptoms of genital warts. So... in a way, yes -- and in a way, no... because the warts don't actually cause cancer, and most genital warts are caused by the herpes virus, which isn't thought to cause cervical cancer... but certain strains of HPV can cause cervical cancer... and certain strains can result in genital warts... so, what do you do?

You go to the doctor, and get a vaccination. The strains of HPV thought to be responsible for cervical cancer are included in an HPV vaccination.
