Cervical cancer jab age 20? |
I'm 20 and have never had sex, can I get the jab? I saw on the news that it costs the NHS something like 拢250 per jab, so I'd say it would cost something similar. In answer to CheerleaderLou's problems and yours, the NHS are starting with the 12/13 year olds because the jab is most effective on virgins. As you say, you're 20 years old and are still a virgin, but you're a major minority in this country. I think the average age of becoming sexually active in this country is around 16/17, therefore, the NHS is going to be unwilling to waste money on people who have already had sex, which is why it is hard to get the injection on the NHS. I'm 15 years old, and my mum wants me to have the injection, but I'm going to have to get mine privately, because I may not be able to get it on the NHS. It's something like 拢300 privately I think. I think CheerleaderLou said something about them offering it in schools, but I haven't heard anything about this through my school, so I don't know whether that's true or not. Speak to your GP first and see what she says, and if she's unable to give you the vaccination, go privately. It's worth being protected. This whole thing really annoys me! It's fine for them to vaccinate all this 13 year old girls but what about us older girls? The message they are sending out is that it is fine for us all to get cervical cancer aslong as the 13 year old's are protected! I read up on this when the HPV vaccination was first mentioned. It is possible for women up to the age of 26 to pay for the vaccination themselves privately. At the moment they are giving it to year 8 students I believe, but the overall aim is to give it to all young girls and possibly (women if they have not had sex) Have a chat with your GP about it. as far as i know there giving it to yr8 at school and then working there way up, so u will get it at some point. the best person to talk to this would be your doctor but because you have never had sex you really don't have to worry about it yet I think at this stage they are just offering it to young teenagers/ |
