Abnormal Pap? Could this be Cervical Cancer? |
Hi. Im 23. My nurse just called me (which i just knew what it was) because a few years ago I had an abnormal pap smear in which the nurse had called me and said I needed a colposcopy. I had one done and there were no abnormal cells anymore. Well, I had 2 pap smears done after that and all normal so i felt wonderful! Then on March 2nd, 2009 I went for my pap smear and earlier today, the nurse called and said your pap was abnormal and you need a colposcopy. Now this is really starting to freak me out. Now im think i should get off the pill and ttc just incase i have cervical cancer! I have only been on the pill for a little over a week now.... I was told the same thing about 3 months ago. I went to a second opinion because the first GYN I went to had a clerk call me with the news as I was driving 'alone' to pick up my son at school. The pill decreases your chance of cervical cancer believe it or not just listen to your doctor and do what they say. Good luck. No, first of all, try and calm down. I know that's easy for me to say, as I'm not in your situation. But, Wait. Don't get off the pill on your own. You've only been on the pill a week, so that's not long enough to make a difference anyway. Talk to your ob/gyn. Call her and speak with her directly about your concerns. Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you need a colposcopy. I had an abnormal smear 2 years ago but then got pregnant 2 months later so that meant that my repeat smear had to be delayed until I had my post natal check up. Thankfully, both of my repeats have come back as normal and I don't have to go for another year. From my own experience, having an abnormal smear doesn't affect your ability to conceive. |
