Fear of Getting Cervical Cancer...What can I do?

I am scared to get this cancer, even though I don't have the risk factors, except slightly overweight. Im 23, not sexually active (my moms into value of marriage and would freak out), no health concerns at all, None, never been in hospital. I've never had a pelvic or Pap (my doctors said they wouldn't perform those on me as a virgin). I have had abnormal periods and vaginal discharge that is tan in color and sticky sometimes, daily for years and years and the discharge will smell a little but not fishy or anything. The doc thinks its a Hormonal thing..I have had blood tests taken which came back fine...there is no pain anywhere at all. Should I be concerened? I mean, is this fear irrational or anything? Cause Im scared to have the dr look me in the eye and say "you have cancer." Am I crazy?

Edit: The doctor who said no paps told me this when I was 16..I haven't seen a doctor in ages..I live in america, where the healthcare sucks ***..I went to the ER last year with Pelvic Pain (which was a bladder infection) they took blood, he said it was very good, no anemia at all or any signs of problems. They were going to give me a Pelvic, but a trauma came in and they let me go. Im just scared to get it..Like, It keeps me up at night and makes me ill and depressed.

First of all, no idea what dubious is going on about because this has nothing to do with tampons...The main cause of cervical cancer is HPV which you get from being sexually active, so no, a doctor would generally not perform a pap smear on someone who is a virgin.
Also, you pretty much are freaking out over nothing as you are in the lowest risk group for this type of cancer. Obviously cancer is a serious disease, but as of now your chances are virtually zero of getting it. You can also get the Gardasil vaccine, it's pretty pricey but WELL worth it, especially if you are worrying this much. It will give you piece of mind when you do become sexually active. If you don't have insurance to cover it, I'd just suggest putting money aside to get it because it's an investment you won't regret.
And another thing, to just worry about one particular health problem isn't too great either. It's important that you keep yourself as healthy as possible in all aspects in order to avoid all types of complications. But don't freak out about other stuff now! As long as you take care of yourself, everything will be good.

As long as your not sexually active...no need to worry. Cervical cancer is caused by hpv (virus). I have heard that you can get this with deep kissing. To be on the safe side get the injection, then you will be protected. As always use condoms when you become sexually active.

dont freak out, it is said that the only thing preventing eternal life is cancer that will eventually get you, so instead of worrying, its easier not to care.

Get a Pap Schmear and pray.

Definitely get the Guardasil vaccine for HPV if you can where you live if you ever plan on becoming sexually active. Your doc should be able to administer it. HPV is a big cause of cervical cancer and is really common since it can have no symptoms, especially when men carry it. Any female older than 12 in the US and under 27 can get the vaccine, even if she is not sexually active. I think it has another name in the UK.
You most likely don't have cervical cancer. The discharge is probably a hormonal thing. It's the vagina's way of cleansing itself. Every woman experiences discharge sometimes. Abnormal periods happen for a variety of reasons, but I've never heard of them associated with cervical cancer, but I'm not a dr. Do you feel comfortable with and trust your doctor? I ask because they probably know better than anyone on Yahoo Answers, and your doctor has examined you and done tests. If you are worried, get a second opinion from a doctor you trust.
I got a pap smear when I was a virgin, but that was ages ago, and it was a bit uncomfortable.

To answer your question about the cervical cancer... you want to abstain from sex. The vast majority of cervical cancer cases are correlated with HPV (Human Papillomavirus). You are worrying about a multitude of other health problems you have that aren't life threatening, rather they area nuisance. Some women get bladder infections more often than others (my ex-girlfriend for example). While some women may get one bladder infection in their life, others get several a year for no apparent reason. Same with discharge, which can be due to many things.

But in respect to cervical cancer you want to avoid being exposed to HPV, which approximately (at least in Canada, where i live) 75% of people get HPV in their first sexual encounter. Please read this entire article on wikipedia, which is heavily sourced: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPV

So basically.. DON'T STRESS.

i think its a very rational fear. any form of cancer is scary.

a) have you had the vaccination? it apparently can reduce the risk signficantly (by 75% i think?)

b) my doc said you only need to get paps when youre sexually active.

c) maybe assess the risk of cancer, like through family history and things.. if you can or are not aware of it already. i dont know if it'd make you feel any better if its not present in your family or what not. hmm, 2 of my aunties have had breast cancer and my cousin had leukemia (sp?) but cancer isnt something that worries me anymore. it used to be a huge fear in my life and for a few weeks or so it consumed me and i just thought that, you know.. whats the point of being scared of dying, when im barely living with this fear anyway.

can you take any preventative measures? exercise and certain foods help alot with cell repair and regeneration.

anyway. i really hope things get better, im pretty sure they will.
all the best

First of all...total lie that your DR. said he wouldn't give you a pap smear because you are a virgin. NO DR. would say that. Do you think only non-virgin's use tampons? Same difference.

Sounds like you are freaking over nothing, to me.

DEAR KATHARINE aka Ms. Know It All - I am referring to the fact that a PAP SMEAR is no more harmful to your virginity than using a tampon. Try to connect the dots.
