The cause of cervical cancer is HPV. Gardasil is the new vaccine out to fight against HPV types 16, 18, 6, and 11. HPV types 16 and 18 cause about 70% of HPV-related cervical cancer cases. HPV types 6 and 11 cause about 90% of genital wart cases

How do people get HPV?
HPV affects both women and men.

鈥any people who may have HPV may not show any signs or symptoms, so they can pass the virus on without even knowing it.

HPV is a very common cause. HPV is an STD, and is also known as genital warts. Recently a study showed that around 80% of American women, if not more, have contracted HPV. It can be spread with or without a condom. When you get pelvic exams every year, that is one of the main things the OBGYN is looking for. An HPV vaccine has just been released and hopefully will soon be readily available.
