Cervical cancer? |
does having genital warts mean you have cervical cancer? we were having a discussion about this and i stated that the type of HPV that gives you warts is a different strain then the kind that gives you cervical cancer. i had read somewhere that the HPV strain that causes warts is the low risk type. is this true? You are correct. The strains of HPV that cause genital warts are low risk for causing cervical cancer. Even if you are infected with a higher risk strain, it does not mean you have or will develop cervical cancer, although the risk is certainly higher than if you had a strain that produces genital warts. Source(s): 4th year nursing student Having genital warts does not mean that you have cervical cancer. In some instances the strains that causes warts are low risk and in some cases people develop warts and it progresses to cervical cancer. te first answer is totalley right in my opion? yup it depends on the strain specifically strains 16 and 18 HPV gives you a high risk of developing cervical cancer. you are right. there are many, many viruses which can cause genital warts, but the ones referred to as high risk hpv cause cervical cancer. |
