Cervical cancer? |
my mum might have cervical cancer! i kno its not the wrost cancer in the world but its cancer! im rather scared about it all and wondered if you had any advice on it! please help! Cervical cancer is like any cancer. Cancer is cancer there is no cancer that is less serious. Your mom, (if she has been diagnosed as having actual cancer by a specialist ) should be seeing her oncologist for treatment. During chemo (if that is the treatment the oncologist selected), it is best for you to be there for her, she will need you and your support. If this was caught at the very beginning stages, your mom may had gone through a colposcopy (where the doctor looks through a microscope and use vinegar to bring out the bad cells to see better) which then the doctor cuts out a portion of the cervix for a biopsy). Your mom may have to go through a lot of pap smears as she is being monitored. If the bad cells are still active, your mom may have to have a procedure called a 'cone biopsy' where the doctor removes a section of the cervix in the shape of a wedge. I have a good friend who at first had the HPV virus that developed into cervical cancer. She went through all of the above and I was with her the whole way. She is now in remittance and is doing awesome. Wish your mom good luck and wishes from me. Cervical cancer usually stay-es isolated to the cervix for a number of years. Doctors actually recommend you go ahead and have your children if cervical cancer is diagnosis ed in early stages. If your mother has been having regular check-ups once a year, or at least for a couple of years. She will be just fine, even if it's been a while since going in for a check up, cervical cancer usaly stays within in the cervice for 10 years or longer. I don't have any answers, but I recieved my results from a pap test, and Atypical uncertain significant cells popped up in the results! These are abnormal cells, and I may have cervical cancer too. I think there's a 5-10% chance... I'm scared. I am going back in six whole long months to find out... :( strawberry is absolutely incorrect with the information she gave you. what she says is partially true with regards to cervical DYSPLASIA (pre cancer) but not true with actual cervical CANCER. if your mom has dysplasia, you can breathe a sigh of relief as this is easily curable. if she has true cancer, this is a whole new ball game. if it is very early it can be cured. the treatment is no walk in the park. too many people are using the word cervical cancer when what they mean is cervical dysplasia-the precancerous changes. cancer of the cervix does not stay confined to the cervix-and contrary to your belief-it is a devestating horrible cancer that severly affects the lives and bodies of those women who are unlucky enough to get it. Generally, your mom found out the cervical cancer through the women's routine examination from her Ob/Gyn doctors. Since they are not the cancer specialist, they had done series of clinical work to confirm their diagnosis such as refer your mom to an oncologist and a surgeon to perform pathology testings. Did your mom gone to see a surgeon and have a tissue pathology biopsy done? It has to be confirmed by the pathologist that the tissues are benign or malignant. If it is malignant, have to be determined what stage are the disease. Usually, stage I, II and III are still have a greater chances to be cured. However, If it is on stage IV and V, the cancer may spread to other parts of the body such as your organs, your brain and sometimes into the bones. We called the process metastastic, and what can the oncologist may do is try to extend the lifespan for the patient so he or she will have some quality of life before to hospice. If your mom's conditions are benign and it is localized, then a surgeon will take it into consideration to remove it and worry about it later. If it is grow more than one places or it's metastastic, then chemo therapy and radiation treatment are the options. The most important thing that you have to bear in mind: respect your mom's decision;have lots of patiences and be able to encourage your mom to go through the process no matter what. Otherwise, losing faith results losing the battle and end up losing your life. You can check out The American Cancer Society and get more info. I hope it helps and good luck! I've had been on surgery 2 times at the diff time for my cervix. Becuz i had abnormal cells on it and called Cervical Dysplasia (precancerous). Afterwards, I keep attending to gyn checkups every 6 month to be sure everything is good as normal. It is curable. Because i took multi-vitamins everyday, that is why my result keeps being normal again. So i suggest ur mom to take multi-vitamins becuz multi vitamins do have follic acid and Beta Carotene. They actively immune your system and cells. Hope ur mom will get betta soon! Good luck! http://www.adam.com/democontent/imcacces... |
