What causes cervical cancer to reoccur?

What causes cervical cancer to reoccur?

It recurs when a cancer cell (or cells) was not destroyed during treatment. It takes only 1 cancer cell left alive for the cancer to recur or travel to other body areas.

There is no test that can determine if every cancer cell has been destroyed, and there is also no test that will pick up micro cells or tumors smaller than about a grain of rice.

About a million cells can fit on the point of a pin, if that gives you any idea of the number of cells that must be present to be as large as a grain of rice and before a scan can detect it. Source(s): http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/when-...
- Infection of the HPV virus

- Early sexual activity is one such factor. The cells lining the cervix do not fully mature until the age of 18 and this increases the risk of HPV

- Other Sexually transmitted diseases (also called STDs or STIs - sexually transmitted infections) including gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis or HIV/AIDS are also increases the risk of HPV

- Cigarette smokers

- Possible long-term (more than five years) use of oral contraceptives

- An irregular screening history
