Should the cervical cancer vaccination be required for teenage girls?

while i think it is a good thing, i'm having a hard time believing it should be required. i'm curious to know what other people think about it.

No, it should be a choice. It has not been around long enough for them to know about the effect it may have 5, 10, 20 years down the road. If girls want to get it, then they certainly should. If they are reluctant, then no, they should not be forced to do so.

I do not think this vaccine should be required of young teens. I heard that there is a risk of paralysis. I know what should be required of teenage girls.......abstinence!
let's put it this way, would you want you or your child to have a vaccination or cancer?
i had it i know. i had a hysterectomy at 22 years old.
I don't think it should be required. It is so new they don't know the long term effects of it. Also, I think that it is a personal choice that should be made by the girls and their parents should decide. It is not as if it is an infectious disease like chicken pox, so not getting the vaccine does not affect other people besides the individual.
until the parties responsible can STOP the spread of STD's, then I think that it is a good idea...

Pretend it was a vaccination to prevent lung cancer, would the same campaign be going on to disparage it?

So, no the vaccine shouldn't be required. But any parent that thinks their daughter is going to remain a virgin forever and is willing to risk them dying a horrible death should they fall short of being abstinent is delusional.
