Can I have cervical cancer without having HPV? |
I need to know, I am in a serious relationship but was cheated on in another relationship. I go to the doctor soon, but am really hoping someone can ease my mind. It is late and I can't call my Health Department to see if they checked me for it, and will be doing this in the morning, but I need to know if it is possible to have these pre-cancer cells and NOT have HPV. My Beloved needs to know, I can't keep that from him, because if I must have HPV to get mild dysplaysia, then he has it now. And I am scared.. I only found out about this three days ago, and have researched it, but cannot find this particular info. Thanx in advance. Yes it is possible to have cervicle cancer & not HPV. It is also very possible that you may not have cervical cancer. One of my best friend had & several abnormal paps &precancerous cells, that was 3 years ago, she had a biopsy & it was found out that she was okay afterall. In order for cancer to be "cancer" the cells have to mutate at least 3 times, so probably your cervical cells have mutated once or possibly twice. There is no way of knowing, but they can & likely will do more tests on you to see if they become cancerous or not. Blessed be to you & good luck. no, you dont have to have the HPV to have abnormal cells. A high percentage of cervical cancer is caused by HPV but not all. I had abnormal cells and they said I did not have HPV in my system. Although having HPV greatly increases your risk of cervical cancer, it IS possible to have the pre-cancerous cell without the presence of HPV. Nurse Not all strains of HPV causes cervical cancer. Google or yahoo the Department of Health in your area to get more info. Just type the city or town that you live in first. And try to relax! :) Yes the ONLY reason to have an abnormal pap (precancerous cells on your cervix) is from HPV. There is no way to test for it in males and he will not be affected whatsoever. For you, you need to make sure you keep going back to your doctor for pap smears about every 3-6 months to access the changes. HPV is not that big of a deal at all. They say if you have 3 partners in your lifetime you will get it. By the age of 50 80% of the population has it. Also, it is a virus so you body will have to fight it off and it usually will within 5 years. Read up on it more and get yourself educated. Read this.
