Can you get cervical cancer from having sex? My friend said that it's an std.? I have worked in Health Care for 22 years, and am very familiar with this question and work with young adults. Most of them are so obsessed with HIV they don't realize that the real threats are Hep B, Herpes and HPV, 50% of sexually active women will fall victim to this virus. Technically yes she is right, but let me explain: There is a type of virus that may depending upon your individual factors lead to cervical cancer, it is called HPV. Many millions of women will get this if they have started having intercouse at early ages or multiple partner things like that. that is why condoms, abstinence and pap smear tests are critical to good physical health for young women. They are deveolping a vaccine that is only in trials right now and will eventually be issued to young adolescent girls before they be come sexually active to hopefully protect them from the HPV virus that chnges to cervical cancer. There is numerous sites about HPV onthe net to llok at the best advice it to protect your self...no one else will....It is not an actual listed STD but it is from a partner so take responsibility for yourself and you will be fine. There are also many treatments if it is caught early like laser surgery or cryo so good thing to be aware of now. Too many young girls are not getting this info in health classes. Km65 Source(s): http://www.the-hpv-virus.info/ http://www.thehpvtest.com/ this is a good one you can get hpv -which can cause cervical cancer. no its wrong presumption HPV IS A VIRUS THAT CAN CAUSE CERVICAL CANCER ASK YOU GYN- AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE - IT'S TIME TO GET ONE IF YOU GOT THESE TYPE OF QUESTIONS NO yes. because you get stds from having sex. therefor, by having sex, especially unpotected, you put yourself at risk for many std, and a lot of them cancause cervical cancer. |
