I was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer, They are removing part of my cervix, can I still have children? |
I am curious to how long it will take to heal? And if anyone e;se has had the treatment? If so, tell me more...Please I would assume so, if they're 'only' removing part of your cervix. It's likely that you'd have to be carefully monitored from late second trimester through your third trimester, and the obstetrician may need to put a stitch in your cervix or a ring to help keep it closed until you're ready to deliver. This is definitely something you should discuss with your oncologist. Talk to the Doctor 'before' you have the surgery! Chances are probably good that you can still have children but you 'might' have to have 'caescerian delivery'! Aries Get well soon. I had a similar situation. I'm assuming they're going to do a LEEP procedure or a cone biopsy. I had a cone biopsy which removed part of my cervix. I didn't have cancer but I had severe dysplasia, the last stage before cancer. It takes about 6 weeks to fully recover and do not have sex until your doctor tells you it's okay or you will be sorry. You could rip out your stitches and cause more damage. My doctor told me I could still get pregnant, but it might be more difficult because of the scar tissue. But despite that, I was blessed with a perfect little boy in 2004 and the pregnancy was fine with no complications. Oh another thing...be prepared to go every 3 months for a pap after your surgery to make sure they remain normal. After a while, it will probably go to twice a year and then back to the normal once a year. Good luck! personal experience and a few doctors |
