Can the HPV that causes Cervical cancer be spread sexually and cause genital warts? |
Can the HPV that causes Cervical cancer be spread sexually and cause genital warts? The actual subtypes that cause cervical cancer (13 different types that cause cancer out of 100 types of HPV overall - but 4 of the types cause the majority of the cancer) do NOT cause the external genital warts. You can, however, get many types at the same time - and have some cause some cervical changes and LATER warts pop up because the other types of the virus are showing. Hope this helps! Source(s): I am a doctor. Yup, HPV type 6 and 11 cause warts while 16 and 18 cause the cancer. It is a STD. yes you can get it through sexual contact and not everyone has symptoms or gets cancer. It is important if you do have HPV that you get checked regularly (every 6 mos. or so). |
