Am I at risk for cervical cancer b/c my Mom had it while I was still inside of her!? |
My mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer a month before I was born. My birth was premature on purpose so the doctors could start treatment....well that didn't work because she passed away a year later :( So while I was still inside of her belly, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer....what does that mean for me? I was 3 months premature! I only weighed 3 lbs!!! It's crazy I know but now that I'm getting older, I'm concerned about my health. You get it from Human papillomavirus infection, Multiple sexual partners, Poor penile hygiene of the partner, Herpes virus hominis type II infection Okay I just read that you can get it if it's in your family history, Just keep going to the doctor for a pap smear, don't miss a check up. If they can catch it early, it can save your life. You may be at risk not because you were preterm or because your mother was diagnosed while pregnant but because cancer can run in families. Speak to your OB/Gyn about this and when you should begin screenings for cervical cancer. 3 pounds isn't that dramatic. We have 1 1/2 pound preemies who survive. My own son was 3.4 pounds and preterm. I'm a nurse. Nope, cancer is not viral. Therefore you could not get it simply because your mom had it while you were in the womb. The factors that may lead to getting it is genetics and environment. |
