If you aren't a virgin can cervical cancer shots effect you in a bad way?

My parents don't know and I don't want to tell them just yet

Nope! The only reason they say you should have the shot before you've had sex for the first time is because exposure to the class of virus that the vaccination fights reduces the effectiveness.

Uh ... in non-science terms, if you've had sex with a partner who has a STD-type wart, whether it's the kind that causes cancer or not, the shot won't work as well. You won't be protected as much from the cancer.
No, it will not affect you any differently at all
No but you will certainly want to have a reason in mind as to why you can't take the shots if you parents want you to take them. You may want to talk to your doc about this when you go in for your yearly pap/pelvic exam.
It's supposed to boost your immune system against strains of the CIN virus. The thing is with viruses, they mutate and never stay the same so will the vaccine be beneficial in all cases of CIN, it is doubtful. Nine times out of ten, if you get CIN and you are healthy, it will generally go away on its own. I hope they don't make it mandatory as it probably hasn't been tested enough and could do more harm that good at this point.

I just got the shot you're talking about at 26 years old- the oldest the recommend the shot for. I haven't been a vergin since 21. I asked my doc about getting it because I tested positive for one kind of the HPV virus. There's over 100 kinds and the shot protects against 4 of them that cause over 70% of all cervical cancers. A little late for me, since I already have pre-cancerous cells that I had to get cut out (so painful I can't describe it) so YES, GET THE SHOT, even if you've already had sex. Just because you get one type of HPV doesn'tmean it isn't still benificial to avoid the other 3 types it protects from. Now, if they could just come up with a shot for the other hundred some types...

Oh, and so you know, some 75% or more of sexually active people have some form of the HPV viruses. Very common. Your best defense (aside from avoiding sex completely) is the condom. Use one every time. If he won't wear one, he doesn't love you.
