What is the prognosis for patients diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 2A with deep vein thrombosis? |
my mom is diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 2A with deep vein thrombosis, the left kidney and the left lung is slightly damaged. i need to know her chances of survival. Stage 2 cervical cancer has a very high cure rate with proper medical and surgical interventions. The DVT is probably not related to the cancer, but indicates vascular insufficiency. Is your mom diabetic? Does she have cardiovascular disease? Is she post- menopausal? All of these are factors in vascular disease. Because of the known history of DVT she will likely need to be on a blood thinner for life. She may also be prescribed support hose called TED's. These will be worn like pantyhose to help her body maintain vascular blood flow from her legs. The drop in levels of estrogen that follows menopause and or a hysterectomy can contribute to vascular problems. A couple things she can do to to improve her health include eating a well balanced diet low in sodium and trans fats, stay well hydrated with non alcoholic and non caffeine drinks, and exercise regularly (this can be simply walking). Signs and symptoms of DVT include deep pain usually in the calf, localized swelling may occur, localized redness may occur. If she notices these symptoms, DO NOT rub the calf as this may cause the DVT to break free and travel to vital organs like the lungs or brain. DO get immediate medical attention. Source(s): Student Nurse Cervical cancer can be beaten with treatment. I found out I had it when I was pregnant with my oldest child. I am now a survivor of over 8 years from stage 4. However, I don't know what the DVT will do to affect that. Good luck to you honey. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am sorry for you mother. My mother has cancer too. I think only God can answer your question... We are all passengers, we come, we stay and we go :) Even though her situation with the disease sounds very scary the good news is that apparently they caught the cancer in an early stage. However, the thrombosis concerns me since I know from experience with it and the fact that my oldest daughter (who is 9 years old now) had cancer and I had to sign all the concent forms for her to recieve her chemotherapy. Some of the chemo out there can cause blood clots or other problems with the blood and organs. I don't think any one here could really give you the best answer of what to expect. My suggestion is that you need to go with your mother the next time that she goes to the doctor and ask him/her yourself. I will pray that your mother will recover soon. And no matter what the news is from the doctor-there is nothing stronger than faith-when the lights seemed to dim when my daughter was going through her darkest times (I was also a single parent with no addition parent support from her father-dead beat dad) that it was faith that saw me through it. Cancer patients are known to be "hypercoagulable". (They easily clot.) The cervical cancer likely caused the DVT. As others have said, she likely needs a blood thinner. I'm not sure what how the kidney & liver are related. Good luck. |
