Is it true the human papilloma virus that can cause cervical cancer is an STD? |
My sister says that everytime she see's one of those commercials with HPV. She goes on and on about how if u haven't had sex there isn't even a problem, which would make me understand why people don't want their 12 year old daughters to get the vaccines for it...i mean, it's like providing a vaccine for syphilis and then saying, go ahead, now it doesn't matter...does it surprise anyone else? you'd think they'd mention that in one of their commercials, instead of letting tons of girls think they might have it! I agree with you..HPV is an STD that you can get and not even know you have it. It is the most common STD. Yes, it is a huge cause of cervical cancer. Not to say that it is the only way to get it because no one knows what exactly causes cancer. Regular pap tests can prevent it from spreading to cancer and can catch it before it spreads.yes. Try www.webmd.com to research. You are not telling them to have sex, just recognizing that teens will do what they want to do, and do what they tell you they are not doing. i don't think it is std. i have been reading article about papilloma just this weekend. they propose to vaccinate children before 10 years old, cos once u start puberty 60% of children re infected. i don't think that 60% of 10 year old kids re having sex. but this article was quite vage about how it is transmitted YES IT IS TRUE HPV IS AN STD BUT ONLY FEW STRAINS OF THIS VIRUS CAN CAUSE CANCER. CAUTERIZATION OF PAPPILOMA LESIONS SHOULD BE DONE ON THE SAFER SIDE. MYSELF Yes, HPV is an STD and is the cause of cervical cancer. There's a big push to get girls vaccinated at an age where most haven't had sex yet, to prevent them from ever having to worry about this STD. Yes, 12 seems young to get vaccinated for an STD, but would you rather wait til they're 14 or 15 and a significant percentage have already started having sex (often without a lot of planning!) or have been raped (15 is statistically the most common age for date rape to happen, which means for some girls it happens younger!) I worked in child protection. I had to get a SIX year old tested for STD's thanks to a molesting relative. I'm all for making sure that rape victims of any age never have to worry about getting a cancer sentence simply because they were a victim already. |
