our daughter goes in for seregry tomorrow she has 3rd stage stage of cervical cancer :( is there a chance that our daughter could die? we live in WI> she moved back to Oklahoma about a month ago :( she has two children one son six years old and a daughter 12 years old ! I have been looking every where on the Internet but you get so many diffrent answers but I want to know if there is any one out there that is going through the same thing ?and what can we expect ? She is a sweet young lady and has a lot of life ahead of her and we all need her around her children sure do! so can someone please tell me the truth about cervical cancer? this is her mama :( thanks and god bless you all !

I would speak to the doctor because I am under the impression that stage three cannot be treated with a hysterectomy. It has gone too far at that point to be able to operate. It would be treated with chemotherapy and radiation treatment. More like internal radiation treatment and chemotherapy and possibly interferon drugs.
The cancer in situ would be cause for surgery and stage one cancer that has not spread beyond the cervix would be operable. But stage 3 has spread beyond the cervix and depending what stage of stage 3 she is in depends on where and what is being invaded.
Death can be caused by a number of things... there is always a chance of death with cancer and operations, but in terms of cervical cancer thee is a high survival rate for cervical cancer.
The five year survival rate for stage 0 (CIN) is almost 100% stage one is 85-90% with treatment. As well her age is on her side most deaths caused by cervical cancer is in the age range of 50-60 and that includes stage VI which is considered not treatable. Since your daughter is having a hysterectomy she will need time to recover and it takes a few weeks to a month for the recovery of the surgery. I am assuming they are taking it all out like the tubes, the uterus and the cervix along with any lymph nodes in that area and the ovaries. Sometimes a partial is done where they take the cervix only, but given her stage I am still curious why operation is being performed. At any rate if the lymph glands are filled with cancer she will be unable to have the hysterectomy. The doctor will close her up and tell her that she needs internal radiation therapy.
I hope she has a support system to help with the children while she is recovering because she is going to need help for a couple of weeks until she can get beck to her regular life style. Best of luck and the prognosis is quite good for her age. And when cervical cancer is in a stage that it can be operated on and taken out her survival rate is nearly 100% so please stay optimistic and prayerful.

SO very happy to hear that!!! Report It

You really need to ask her doctor. I don't think anyone on answers can give you an expected life for her. Every person is different and the best person who be to ask is her doctor.

well, when ever somone goe under for surgery, theres always a small chance they could not make it. u just have to have faith and keep on prayin'! im sorry to hear this, and i hope she gets better!

go in to a doctor and ask for their opinion. i am sure she will be fine. hope and expect the best to keep your spirits up.

I am not sure, but I will be praying for her and her family

I am not familiar with the stages of cervical cancer, but I am going to say that she will be OK. Again we see the importance of PAP smears. If this disease is caught early it is generally not a big deal. Best wishes!

My sister in law had this she had it removed. She is a-ok now. Don't worry I am sure she will be ok.

You can die driving a car. So I'm not going to assure you of your daughters survival through this. However, cervical cancer is less likely to kill her than most other cancers. However it will leave her sterile =/. If the cancer has spread to other parts of her body, she will likely die. I'm going to say though that there is a good, positive chance your daughter will survive. I wish you the best.

The following prognosis information from Wikipedia is quite encouraging, particularly when the cancer is caught in early stages: "Prognosis depends on the stage of the cancer. With treatment, 80 to 90% of women with stage I cancer and 50 to 65% of those with stage II cancer are alive 5 years after diagnosis. Only 25 to 35% of women with stage III cancer and 15% or fewer of those with stage IV cancer are alive after 5 years." I hope she has good doctors and becomes a cancer survivor like me (bladder cancer - 1989).

The 5-year relative survival rate for the earliest stage of invasive cervical cancer is 91%. The overall (all stages combined) 5- year survival rate for cervical cancer is about 70%.
The 5-year survival rate refers to the percentage of patients who live at least 5 years after their cancer is diagnosed. Five-year rates are used to produce a standard way of discussing prognosis.
Of course, many people live much longer than 5 years. Five-year relative survival rates exclude patients dying of other diseases. This means that anyone who died of another cause, such as heart disease, is not counted.
Keep in mind that 5-year survival rates are based on patients diagnosed and initially treated more than 5 years ago. Improvements in treatment often result in a more favorable outlook for recently diagnosed patients.

i to lost a loved one to cancer.
I know someone who had this disease and that was 10 years ago. as far as i know she is free of it today.
Only her oncologist can give you a prognosis because every case is different . I dont know if her oncologist would speak to you because this is a privacy issue but you can try.
Good luck.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope the best for her. My aunt had cervical cancer. She passed away from it, but I also know 2 people who have survived cervical cancer. It depends on how bad it is and how hard the body can fight it. I really do wish the best for your daughter and your family. I know it can be tough, but stay close and leand support to your daughter. She'll be in my thoughts.

Best Wishes,
Olivia

she has a chance...but being a "sweet young lady" isn't going to mean jack shite in the face (?) of cancer...sorry

Do not pay any attention to statistics as they do not account for individuals. Every cancer patient is unique and survival depends on many different factors . . such as the overall health of the patient and their response to treatment. Stage 3 cancer is very serious, but it is treatable and that is what you need to concentrate on . . that it can be treated. She will need all the support and positive feedback that you can give her as she fights her cancer. If she has children . . than she has alot to fight for and that will help her cope with treatment.

There are some support organizations that can help her and you too. Find out as much information as you can about the disease and the best treatment for her stage of cancer.

Stay strong!

Well let's hope and pray that that is not the case. So long as the cancer is contained and not spread to any vital organs I'm sure she will be just fine.

Don't read up on the internet, you will find all kinds of things that will only cause you more heartache and pain.

Every case is so totally individual. Only God knows what lies in store. Pray and have faith and I'll send mine your way too.

I don't know about the stages of cervical cancer but I do know that my sister in law had cervical cancer when she was 21. And they did not hold much hope for her. but the doctors operated, complete hysterectomy, experimented with some medicine that was being tried. This was in 1958. She is still with us. She and her husband adopted a girl and a boy when they could not have one of their own. She has 3 grandchildren now. They know so much more about cancer now, have so many more treatments, chances have improved a lot. Your daughter probably has a better chance than was possible in 1958. And like I said, my sister-in-law is still happy and well. I hope this positive message helps you believe that the doctors will do thier very best and that it will be good enough.

We ha d a good friend that had it, & they went in , & only did a partical hysterectomy, then it went to her ovaries, & yes, she did die.

make sure they do a complete ! & take the radiation. drink carrot juice & appricot juice. & Google Rena CAisse. she developed a tea, that helped many peopel to fight it.

God bless you.
