Chiropractic Care & Back Labor? |
Does anyone know (especially if you had personal experience) if having Chiropractic work done between the 1st and second pregnancy helped to eliminate back labor? As a chiropractor, I can tell you that chiropractic can be very helpful with many types of back pain. To avoid back pain during pregnancy, however, it is advised to have a check up done first to find out the cause of your specific problem. A regimen of therapy can in most cases correct the situation but while you are receiving the treatment and also after you have completely recovered, it is strongly recommended to also strengthen your core muscles and try to correct your weight so that your Body Mass Index falls within the recommended limits. As your fitness level increases, the probability of having back pain and its intensity during pregnancy should dramatically decrease. Remember that you are a partner in your own health and should not rely on the treatments that you will receive as the only solution to pain relief. You have to do your homework too. When it comes to the pain during delivery, I don't think there is much that can be done by anyone to avoid it. Some people are lucky and don't have too much pain but the majority of women go through the same painful process. Best of luck and stay active. My personal experience with chiropracters is very bad. I showed one Xrays and a cat scan of back damage between T11 and L5 and he couldn't recognise it. He thought I wanted a sick note for time off (I was actually self amployed and didn't need a note for anyone). Back labor just means that that is where you are feeling most of your pain. It is different for every person, and also for every pregnancy. Most of the time it is caused by the position of the baby. When a baby is head down, it is most easily born facing downwards, towards the floor. Sometimes when a baby is facing towards the ceiling when it is born (you might hear a nurse or the dr say O.P. or sunny-side up), patients often complain about having back labor. I would think if a chiropractor could really prevent back labor, one would be stationed outside of every labor unit - making tons of money and saving millions of new mommies from the pain! :o) |
