Chiropractor / Chiropractic question?

Would a chiropractor EVER suggest surgery for a ruptured disk?
Or surgery for anything else....

The chiropractors in my area claim to be able to fix almost everything....I'm not saying that they cant fix ALOT of different ailments with adjustments.

But I'm just curious to how bad something would actually have to be before one actually suggested surgery???

Of course a chiropractor would make a referral for a ruptured disc, if it was indicated. Just having a ruptured disc doesn't automatically mean the need for surgery. A ruptured disc, with loss of muscle strength and incontinence is a definite referral for surgery. I have sent several patients for surgical consults.

Now as far as the chiropractors in your area saying they can fix anything. Are they really saying that, or are they just advertising what chiropractors can fix. We can treat any musculoskeletal condition that does not require major surgery.

Now as to how bad someone needs to be to suggest surgery for mechanical back pain:
Bowel/Bladder control changes.
Non-responsive to conservative management.
Simplistic but pretty much these are the criteria.

of course they would

surgery exists for a reason. if they saw something that needed to be done surgically of course they would recommend it

At the end of the day, sometimes the problem is too big to fix without getting in there. Surgery isn't the doctors first choice either

my chiropractor does, and quite often. we were talking about referring one day. He said he has to refer about 3 patients a month for surgical consult. He said he treats ruptured disc person 2 weeks, if no improvement, refers. He said he gets people referred to him by MDs about 3 times a week.

all the time
