Does anyone know what the latest technologies in massage/physical/chiropractic therapy are?

i'm working on a group project and we're having a hard time finding the latest technologies in these fields. does anyone know of any new technologies or websites that will lead to these things? thanks!

Some of them are not necessarily new, but more research is being done to validate or refine the techniques.

I am assuming you are looking for stuff related to back care...

In PT, look into mechanical diagnosis and therapy...while not new, the research has become more and more compelling. Go to http://www.mckenziemdt.org You will also find an extensive literature review.

In chiropractice care, the laterst "buzz" is "spinal decompression"...google "DRX9000" or "VAX-D" Be careful when you interpret the literature however. The most commonly quoted article is by Goines, et al. They claim a 90% success rate...yet, it you read the break down...the 90% primarily occurs in people who have no underlying degeneration and only have a one level disc protrusion (a group that is very likely to spontaneously recover anyway). Once you look at multiple level problems and with the presense of disc degeneration, the success rate steeply declines and really isn't any more successful than other treatments.

If you want a REALLY good read that reviews a multitude of reserach and really ANALYZES it, I recommend a book by Dr. Ron Donnellson titled "Rapidly Reversible Low Back Pain." Probably difficult to find at the library (because it's new)...but available at http://www.optp.com or amazon.com

P.S...I cannot think of any significat GOOD scientific literature on massage therapy...sorry I can't help you there. But I am sure there are "new" techniques out there.

Good luck
