Chiropractic... good or bad, whats you opinion?

I would like to know why some people hate chiropractors what have they done that is so bad? Whats your opinion on chiropractors?

I am a fan; kept me out of surgery, and found my uncle's cancer. I think the important thing with any type of doctor is that you find one that you are comfortable with. The problem people have is that they don't know enough about it, don't understand it and then hate it. Most everyone has the medical idea of sickness when it comes to doctors: I'm sick, make me well and I don't want to do anything about it. Gotta change lifestyle too.

There are 2 types of chiropractors. Look it up. Straights (about 5%) and mixers (about 95%). Straights don't refer and think they can fix everything - they get all of the press. Mixers are different, and have much more medical-type training. Last time I was in, he showed me pubmed.com. Turns out that "spinal manipulation" is the most researched single treatment out there.

Long story short: I have a headache, joint ache, muscle problem - chiropractor. I have cancer, infection going to the md.

Mine has done wonders for me!!

some say it works. personally.. i went once and when i left i was 10 times worse than going in.
but i guess it depends on the person?

People who tend to hate them are physical theripest like my husband, but I like them I think they are great and they can help my just as much as a PT! My husband hates them b/c they take jobs away from him and they believe in things he is taught not to do!

I think a chronipactor has his place as well as a hypno therapist and a diet tech

they help me a lot. but i think some people hate them because they can't actually prove that they are doing something.. ya know? like they just do something and i think some people think that it has a placebo effect. i personally notice a big improvement after i visit the chiro.

I think they are awesome!
I just recently finished my care with my chiropractor.
I was in 2 car accidents in 1 month last year and they have helped me so much!

I think people hate it more for the long term effects, plus the fact that once you go, your supposedly "addicted" and keep going back.

But probably more because of all the studies showing that it screws up your alignment rather than fixing it and can cause nerve damage.

I didn't believe this but I do now...Once you start using them you can never stop. The back becomes used to being "manipulated" and if you stop it stays out of place. I don't use them anymore and still have back trouble. I just had more pain when I was seeing them all the time.

Chiropractors want you to go see them regularly even if nothing is wrong with you. I think their kind of preventative medicine can do more harm than good. They have not convinced me that the cracking sound is good.

If he has a certain feeling and makes it softly: wonderful. However, they are antagonists of the orthopedic doctors who usually don't have special practical abilities. Therefore a hate ...

fake doctors.. i dont like them. they are glorified massage therapist. i have seen them readjust spine positions which is cool. but thats about it. in fact they think they are soo good they chose not to refer a person to a real doctor when they had bone cancer. the fake doctors just don't know when real medicine is needed. they think they are real medicine.. sad to say that person died.

Chiropractic is a good manipulative procedure. But, like anything else, it depends largely on the practitioner. Some chiropractors focus upon covering over-head, and making $$. While others are dedicated doctors who are sincerely trying to heal you of your pain. Don't confuse the procedure with the skill and intention of the practitioner. In some cases they can be completely different.

Most people who speak negatively about chiropractic, have either had a bad experience, or have been told it is bad by someone else, and may not have ever been to a chiropractor themselves. So, check it out yourself when making your decision.

A good "red flag" indicator as to if a chiropractor is trying to take you for your $$ is if on your first visit, they want to have you come for treatment 3-5 times per week for the next several months. Esp. if you have insurance that will pay for their services. In that case, go find another chiropractor. So, what I'm saying is to use "common sense" when choosing a chiropractic doctor. You can get great benefit from seeing one..........as long as you don't feel their hand in your pocket, reaching for your wallet.

I absolutely LOVE going to the chiropractor, but I was still a skeptic about taking my children. I had had severe back problems, so, I went. He worked on my back & I did exercises to correct the curve of my spine for about a year...GREAT! Prior to that, I had come to the place where I lost the feeling in three fingers on my right hand - scary! So, I got better and the regular Drs. didn't know what to do! I finally took ALL of my children. They love it: no more headaches, backaches, earaches, hardly any illness at all. Now, when they can't go they complain...

there are great chiropractors, good chiropractors and not good chiropractors. The ones I worry about are those who see you once and say "You need to see me X amount of times per week for X period of time" Everyone works differently. I have seen a chiropractor over the years since I was a young boy. The most I have ever had to see a chiropractor for something i did to my neck and back was 3 times.. I played international rugby for 9 years and 19 years of ice hockey including 2 years as a professional. The sooner you see someone about an injury the faster it can be helped.. Just remember this Muscles move bones, so if the muscles are not released, then they will pull the bones back out of alignment..

I'm a massage therapist with 20+ years of experience, I work with professional athletes who travel to my home in southeast idaho.
