Is chiropractic "quackery" or does it really work?

My husband herniated a disc last year and the dr's said he'd need back surgery. He decided to go to the chiro instead and although it took about a month, he is 100% again.

Recently, I've had shooting pain in my left side that no test or dr has been able to diagnose (ct scans, ultrasounds, blood test, urine test, mri, pelvic exams, scopes). I talked to a chiro who said it very well could be a nerve. I want to try and go, but I find so many bad things googling about chiros - that its all fake, its just your joints popping, it can actually be bad for you, etc. So what is the truth? It helped my husband, so I dont know how it can't work. Thoughts?

There is no way my husband would have "healed on his own" He was in so much pain he couldnt lay down, sit in most positions or move his neck at all.

Obviously there are going to be bad chiropractors and good chiropractors out there just like there are bad medical doctor/dentists/teachers/personal trainers/accountants, etc. You have to do your research and find someone you are comfortable with. If your husband had such success with his chiropractor why wouldn't you just go and check him out? I have had tremendous results from chiropractic adjustments, Active Release Technique (ART) and acupuncture but I have a great chiropractor.
Chiropractors go to school for a minimum of 7 years in Canada (it's different in the States as they have accelerated programs for students there) and they are licensed to take a complete history, physical examination, take/read x-rays and provide a diagnosis to a patient. Some chiropractors get further certifications such as ART, acupuncture, Graston, etc which makes them even more skilled at what they do.
As for the "popping" sound you hear when you receive a chiropractic adjustment it's just gas being released from your joint. It has NOTHING to do with your joints "cracking" but just gas being released from the joint. Sometimes if it is a neck adjustment it is louder because it is closer to your ear but it is the same thing as when they adjust your mid back or lower back.

Personally I wouldn't go near one, I've never know anyone that was helped. I actually had a friend with liver cancer that saw a chiropractor 4 days a week for months before she got her cancer diagnosis. Obviously he didn't know a thing and only made her worse. I suspect your husband would have improved on his own.

Most are quacks. I'd only look in to ART (active release technique) chiropractors. Cause these guys actually ask you questions, give you info and work with muscles and everything.

I had a quack for a chiropractor once. She told me one day she'd go through 400 people. I got charged 20 bucks for a few tweaks here or there. They expected me to come in so many times a week. I think it's BS. They should be helping you and you should only have to go when you feel the NEED.

.If your problem is a chemical imbalance, drugs are the answer. if yo have a biomechanical problem, Chiropractic makes sense. Unless you are a Pharmacist, MD or DC you won't be able to tell without an exam. Go see a Chiropractor and find out.

Friend,

Do not entertain any doubts about the Chiro practitioner

They are all trained well and know what they do.

It is a scientific method .It will not harm you.

So please go to the registered Chiro practitioner and be relieved of your pain.

GOD BLESS YOU.

i have had back problem sincei was 10...
i had a slipped discand chiropractic care really helped...

Some Chiros believe that Chiropractic is the solution to all of the sicknesses and problems that happen to the body. They're the ones that give the rest a bad name.

Is Chiropractic ever the solution for things like allergies, menstrual pains, high blood pressure, headaches, arthritis, fatigue etc etc? Yes, it can be. Is it the best and only solution every time these symptoms are experienced? Not necessarily. Is it dangerous? Have you seen the studies about people having strokes? They forget to tell you what the chances are that it can happen. It's so incredibly low, that it's almost not worth mentioning.

Find a good chiropractor, and give it a try for awhile. If it doesn't work after a month or so, it probably wasn't the solution. But it's very likely it can help.
