Chiropractic Adjustment? A person is involved in an accident in which they are rear ended.?

They suffer neck pain and headaches. At the time of the impact her head went forward and back again. She went to see a chiropractor with neck pain and headaches rated as 8 on the visual analog scale. On seventh visit to the chiropractor reported frequent moderately severe achy pulsating pain. Stated much more distress when looking up and down. Noticed frequent moderately severe inflexibility, stiffness, achy and burning pain that migrated from her right ear and her left ear. Experiencing lightheadedness. Noticed frequent severe throbbing pain in her head. Turning her head to the left aggravated the dizziness. During the manipulation of neck began to have a severe headache on the left side of head became dizzy and nauseous. Had difficulty breathing and swallowing with numbness in her right cheek and arm. Diagnosis: vertebral dissection and occlusion with a cerebellar infarction. Was this the fault of the manipulation and should the Chiropractor have been alerted before adjusting?

As a provider of care the chiropractor is responsible for diagnosing the problem and providing proper care. When the chiro fails to recognize clear symptoms not consistent with treatment being given then negligence has occurred. This is the problem with people running to the chiro the instant they have and problem with their spine...chiropractors CANNOT properly diagnose conditions they are untrained to recognize or unfamiliar with. Real doctors can diagnose the problem and if not then send you off to a specialist. Source(s): sports medicine healthcare provider
