What is chiropractic and is it effective? |
What is chiropractic and is it effective? chiropractics adjust your spinal cord to allow your body function best. they have many different techniques and will use them according to what you need. to my experience the adjustments are completely painfree (they actually feel really good)and their effect is quite fast. if you have a back or neck problem you should definitely see one (to my experience they are much more effective than physiotherapists when it comes to the matters of the spine). however make sure you choose a good chiropractitioner, someone with good experience and good reputation. my experience with chiros has been very very positive, and almost everyone in my family sees a chiro regularly. but i do know someone who saw an unexperienced chiro and she was not happy. Source(s): my brother is a chiropractic student and i've been treated before The first day I was in Chiropractic college I was told that Chiropractic was the philosophy, science and art of all things natural. In the USA each of the separate states determines what Chiropractic physicians (traditionally called Chirorpactors) are allowed to do, as with all health care professions. Health care professions, which are best known by their respective type of medical trade guide, do not determine the legislated laws, but rather elected officials in each state determine this. Chiropractic physicians are different than Medical, Osteopathic and Naturopathic physians, but are legally considered physicians, at least here in Utah. By choice, Chiropractors do not perform dentistry, invasive surgery, prescibe controlled substances or obstetrics. They do perform examinations, order and review a variety of diagnostic tests (X-rays, MRI, CT, etc., serology, urology, electrodiagnostic and other types), make a diagnosis and plan and implement conservative care (treatments). They have a variety of treatments available for their use, the best of which are called chiropractic adjustments, also called chiropractic manipulative treatments, which can be applied to nearly all joints of the body, especially to the spinal column, along with adjunctive passive modalities (hot, cold, light, sound, air, electicity, ultrasound, massage techniques, manual therapy techniques, et cetera), prescribe, guide, direct and apply a variety of therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises and activities, help patients with activities of daily living, provide chiropractic peer-counseling, perform impairment ratings, and a variety of other procedures, including acupuncture (when certified). Chiropractors tend to render care directly to patients, rather than prescribing care and having someone else provide the care. Thus they are not therapists, but are considered physicians, and as such have special physician level procedures reservered for their use based on their college training and clinical expertise. When Chiropractic care is rendered by a licensed Chiropractor (or Chiropractic physician), it is very effective for treating a variety of problems (work and motor vehicle crash injuries, sports injuries, etc) and also is important for helping patients stay well and healthy, which would include diet, nutition and other counseling. When Chiropractic care is provided by someone without the extensive and specialized training and expertise required, including lay persons, therapists and other health are professionals, it is potentially dangerous and cause much harm (death or disability). Conservative chiropractic care has been found to be very effective, remarkably safe (especially when compared to other types of treatment options, i.e. it is at least 100 times safer than taking an asprin for head and neck pain, for example), is widely available in the USA and relatively affordable.
