Chlamydia and Infertility? |
My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years..before he met me he slept with this girl and he got chlamydia from her. He hadnt slept with anyone after that than he met me and we dated and eventually had sex and he passed it on to me. I had it for four months and he's had it for 8 months. We both went to the doctor after i got really painful bad symptoms and the doctor diagonsed us with chlamydia. We got better but the doctor told me i have a 50% chance of having children since I had it for that long. I'm scared because I'm 21 and although I dont want kids now, i do want them someday, i've always wanted a family of my own, but i'm scared that i may be infertile :(.....Has anyone out there had kids even though they had chlamydia before? Also could my boyfriend be infertile after having it for so long? Your boyfriend should be fine. The reason it is bad when women go too long without treating chlamydia is that it can produce scar tissue in the fallopian tubes, which blocks the egg from releasing into the uterus. When you do decide to have children, it would be best to have a meeting with an OBGYN to figure out about your chances and options if there is a problem. If you feel like you can't wait, I would say go ahead and set an appointment now. Its never safe to carry a disease for that long without treatment. Depending on your age and depending whether you take care of your problems (down there) immediately next time..better yet, use protection from this point on and when its time for babies, I'm sure you will be fine. I'm certain the Doctor wanted to scare you a little bit by putting it that way but some of what he is saying is the truth, you can damage your reproductive organs without treating your symptoms immediately, remember that and use protection to save them.
