I'm sorry to inform you of this but chlamydia is not a Greek or even roman goddess. Chlamydospore is a thick-walled, dark spore formed by smuts and other fungi, and is the root word for the disease chlamydia. The word does have Greek origins (as many do) but it is most definitely JUST an STD. But if this truly is the child's name, it is no wonder the Vicar refuses to christen your niece -- he's probably afraid he want be able to keep a straight face.

Yes. Any priest has the right to refuse to carry out a service or act if they think it inappropriate. The name has to be a joke. No one in their right mind would call a child that.

I would suggest that you get your niece christened on the Greek Island of Lesbos.
