Can a couple who says that neither one has cheated or had sex with anyone else get chlamydia in any way?

she says she has not cheated and he says he has not, she had a pap smear that showed she had it and ask him to take meds, they are married and expecting a new child can it harm the new baby or if she did cheat and the person who impregnated her gave her chlamydia can the baby be harmed in any way

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease. It can't be acquired any other way. In your friends' case, the following are a few theories:

1) One of them is not telling the truth and has been exposed during unprotected sexual activity with someone else.

2) The chlamydia is from a past exposure (someone she dated prior to her marriage). Chlamydia undiagnosed and untreated doesn't go away... If the wife has NEVER been tested for it in the past, this could most likely be the case.

3) Chlamydia tests are not 100% accurate. If she's been tested in the past and it was negative, it could have been a false negative (meaning not enough culture was taken to provide a reliable result).

Normally I would counsel the couple by stating, "It doesn't matter who acquired it... the fact remains that both were exposed, should complete the medication and look at it as a clean slate in which to start and base the rest of their marriage on."

As for the child, some physicians will opt for a C-section versus a vaginal delivery to protect the child. But if it's early in the pregnancy and treatment has been prescribed and taken by the mother, the likelihood is less.

Well clearly someone cheated because it doesnt come from nowhere and I would think that it could be transfered to the baby beings its in your body but I dont know for sure I would ask the doctor
