Can having chlamydia twice affect fertility?

I have just found out the guy I have been dating for more than a year has given me chlamydia. I know for a fact that he hasn't had it the whole time we were together because I was tested for STDs about 3 months into our relationship and was negative for everything...So he cheated on me. I'm guessing from the minor symptoms i've had it about 6-8 months.
The problem is I have had chlamydia once before from the person I lost my virginity to years ago, at that time I had it for nearly a year before being brave enough to get tested, i've heard that having Chlamydia twice can bring your chances of infertility up to 20% is this true?

Having it once can affect your chances, depending on how far it got into your tubes.....But don't panic. STDs can affect your chances, but they don't always. A lot depends on what kind you have, how long you had it, what age you are, and if you took your meds properly. If you have these types of questions, call your doctor. He/She should be happy to answer questions about this stuff, it is normal to be concerned. Good luck Source(s): I am a nurse
Im not really sure. It depends on how long you have it. I know it's kinda hard to go in and get tested for those kinds of things, but the longer you have it, the more it destoys. So get rid of it ASAP.
If untreated, chlamydial infections can progress to serious reproductive and other health problems with both short-term and long-term consequences. Like the disease itself, the damage that chlamydia causes is often "silent."

In women, untreated infection can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This happens in up to 40 percent of women with untreated chlamydia. PID can cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and surrounding tissues. The damage can lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus). Women infected with chlamydia are up to five times more likely to become infected with HIV, if exposed.

Can't answer you question factually tho' I reckon you're OK, however next time I'd be safe rather than sorry and use a condom.
