My sons girlfriend found out she has chlamydia. can chlamydia cause tubal pregnancy.? |
she just found out that her baby is dead after 3 months of being pregnant. the baby has been dead for 4 weeks. my son is freaked out. did not have any other sexual partners but her for the last year and i am kind of leary of her if you know what I mean. Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis, which can damage a woman's reproductive organs. Any sexually active person can be infected with chlamydia. The greater the number of sex partners, the greater the risk of infection. Because the cervix (opening to the uterus) of teenage girls and young women is not fully matured, they are at particularly high risk for infection if sexually active. Even though symptoms of chlamydia are usually mild or absent, serious complications that cause irreversible damage, including infertility, can occur "silently" before a woman ever recognizes a problem. In women, untreated infection can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This happens in up to 40 percent of women with untreated chlamydia. PID can cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and surrounding tissues. The damage can lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus). Women infected with chlamydia are up to five times more likely to become infected with HIV, if exposed. Men can get chlamydia from a sexual partner if there is unprotected sex, anal and/or oral sex. Men with signs or symptoms might have a discharge from their penis or a burning sensation when urinating. There may also be burning and itching around the opening of the penis. Pain and swelling in the testicles are uncommon. Men or women who have receptive anal intercourse may acquire chlamydial infection in the rectum, which can cause rectal pain, discharge, or bleeding. Chlamydia can also be found in the throats of women and men having oral sex with an infected partner. I would strongly recommend that your son see a physician and request to be tested for chlamydia if he hasn't done so already. Chlamydia is easily treated and cured with antibiotics like doxycycline or azithromycin depending on the physician's choice. *Follow your doctor鈥檚 orders and finish all the medicine that you are given. Even if the symptoms go away, you still need to finish all of the medicine. *Avoid having any sexual activity while you are being treated for chlamydia; until both sex partners have completed treatment, otherwise re-infection is possible. *Tell your sexual partners, so they can be treated too. *Get a follow-up test three to four months after treatment to make sure that the infection has been cured. *See your doctor again if your symptoms do not disappear within one to two weeks after finishing the medicine. *See your doctor again within 3 to 4 months for another chlamydia test, especially if your sex partner was not treated or if you have a new sex partner. I thought that was only Hpv (or what ever VD the school video said caused Tubal Pregnancy) But i'm pretty sure that Chlamydia doesn't cause it. I would be more worried about your son and his girlfriend's mental health after the death of their baby. I assume she has gotten antibiotics for the chlamydia already. She could easily have gotten it in other ways than you are suggesting. For example, lots of people get it from a hot tub that hasn't been properly chlorinated. Short answer: absolutely. Chlamydia is believed to be the agent most responsible for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which can cause scar tissue in the pelvic region and prevent a fertilized egg from making it to the uterus, resulting in a tubal pregnancy. It is particularly notorious for causing PID because initial infection is asymptomatic (i.e. the woman does not know she has it) 75% of the time, and hence does not think to seek treatment and prevent PID. PID usually takes years to develop - she could have contracted it long before she met your son (if they haven't been together for years). Both need to be treated with antibiotics, as I'm sure they are. Yes, chlamydia can cause tubal pregnancy. However, chlamydia can be cured with the right antibiotics so if they plan to have children in the future, she can get that cleared up so that there will be no problems with future pregnancies.
