Can you get chlamydia any other way apart from unprotected sex? |
my younger sister was living with us for about 6mths and she had been with her bf for 2yrs, "happily". she was a virgin when they met and he was 3yrs her senior, she went to hospital recently with abdo pain, an ovulation bleed, but had the rutine tests done. she had Chlamydia come back positive,it is all sorted out between them but i have done a lot of reading obviusly! and wonder if other bodily fluids carry this bacteria. ie feaces ,snot etc, as i have children and wonder if they might have been exposed in the bathroom or toilet if they rubbed there eyes etc. very worried Nope - only sexual contact. And by the way - your sister's bf had to have gotten this since they were together. There is no way he had it for 2 years without showing ANY signs. Usually, people can go up to 6 months - rarely a year - before getting sick like your sister did. Jess Source(s): I work for your friendly health dept. i don't beleive you can get it from that stuff as im pretty sure it dies quickly outside of the body. if you want to make sure talk to your doctor about it tho. Yes. bugs that fly into your eye can transmit chlamydia. You can't get it from a toilet seat or bathroom though. According to the Center for Diseas Control, "Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Chlamydia can also be passed from an infected mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth. Any sexually active person can be infected with chlamydia. The greater the number of sex partners, the greater the risk of infection. Because the cervix (opening to the uterus) of teenage girls and young women is not fully matured, they are at particularly high risk for infection if sexually active. Since chlamydia can be transmitted by oral or anal sex, men who have sex with men are also at risk for chlamydial infection." So, take a deep breath...your children should be absolutely fine! :-) http://www.cdc.gov/std/chlamydia/stdfact... OK first off it is only contagious if you have oral, vaginal, and/or anal sex as i was kinda looking up stuff prior to this post, it is not concidered a biohazard persay, so unless your children came in "sexual" contact with the infected person you should not have any worries.. |
