Is it possible that chlamydia will be latent for a number of years? |
My husband was told me may have chlamydia, however we have been faithful to each other since we met 6 years ago. We have both been tested and found negative within that time, so it possible one of us had it and it is just now showing up? Also, can it cause sterility in men? Serious answers only please. Non-serious answers will be reported. Thanks. No, it doesn't lay dormant. If someone got it and gave it to someone else, somebody was screwing around and it was not that long ago. My ex gave me that story too. When I got tested I was positive and I kept trying to find out from the doctor if what you said was true. He quickly told me the time frame for it to show up and left the room. I was pregnant at the time and I guess he didn't want to be there when I realized my ex had been f*cking around. Sorry to be so blunt, but you need to know the truth. Good luck. No, I am sure that if you had it when you were tested it would have shown up. In men, chlamydia can cause a discharge from the penis and pain when urinating. In rare cases, it can make a man sterile. It is much more common for it to lead to sterility in women. The infection can spread up the fallopian tubes and leaves scar tissue there so an egg can't get through. If this happens a woman can never get pregnant in her uterus. This also increases the risk of an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, which is a pregnancy that can not go be completed. This is a serious medical condition and if a tubal pregnancy ruptures you can die. Please get tested again. Ask the person who tests you how accurate the results are and what the likelihood of it having gone undetected on your last test is. The most important thing is to get treatment (antibiotics) asap if you have it. Why does your husband think he 'may' have it? Is he experiencing outward symptoms? I think you need him to be very frank and honest with you about his suspicions and the reasons behind them. No. Chlamydia doesn't lay dormant. Symptoms lay dormant, but not infection. It can cause sterility in men, but that is rare. The test for chlamydia for men is rather uncomfortable, so are you sure he was tested before? I would wait to see if it IS chlamydia before making yourself crazy about it. |
