What is it like having Chlamydia?

Just curious to know any experiences you may have had.

It depends how long you have had the condition for.
I'm nto sure how long I had it for but i was treated successfully and a recent ultrasound found n scarring nor any blockages so I should have no trouble conceving.
Some people are not so lucky and due to their bout of chlamydia they are then made infertile.
I was very scared when I found out that I had contracted it and it changed the way i view sex and it made me realise the mportan things.
I no longer have sex with partners whom I haven't known for a log period of time.
But then again i have been with my partner for 2 years now and I know that he will always be faithful to me and so we don't use contraception but I still get tested every 2 years because I haev a fear of it returning.
What is chlamydia?
Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis.

How common is chlamydia?
Statistics vary among different health organizations, but most estimates fall within the range of 2.8 to 4 million infections per year.

How do people get chlamydia?
Chlamydia is transmitted through vaginal, anal and oral sex but can also be passed from an infected mother to a newborn during vaginal childbirth.

What are the signs and symptoms of chlamydia?
Most people with chlamydia don't have any symptoms. When they are present, signs and symptoms in women may include abnormal vaginal discharge, burning sensation during urination, lower-abdomen pain, lower-back pain, nausea, fever and pain during intercourse. Women may also experience bleeding between menstrual cycles, inflammation of the rectum (proctitis) and inflammation of the eyelid (conjunctivitis).

What happens if chlamydia goes untreated?
If left untreated, chlamydia can progress to serious health problems. For women, these may include:
Pelvic inflammatory disease, or PID, an infection of the uterus, fallopian tubes and other reproductive organs
Infertility, the inability to get pregnant after a year of continuous attempts
Ectopic or tubal pregnancy, a pregnancy in which a fertilized egg starts developing outside the uterus
Chronic pelvic pain
Reiter's syndrome, a form of arthritis (inflammation of the joints) that may be accompanied by skin lesions (abnormal tissue) and inflammation of the eye and urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body)
Women with chlamydia are also more likely to get HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) if exposed to the virus.

How does chlamydia affect a pregnancy?
Pregnant women with chlamydia can be successfully treated with antibiotics without harming their babies. Left untreated, the disease may lead to premature delivery. The disease can also be transmitted to the child, possibly resulting in conjunctivitis (pink eye) or pneumonia.

How is chlamydia diagnosed?
Chlamydia can be diagnosed by performing a urine test and by testing a fluid sample collected from the cervix.

What is the treatment for chlamydia?
The condition is easily treated with antibiotics.

How can chlamydia be prevented?
Although abstinence is the best way to prevent infection, the risk of transmission may be reduced by using condoms and limiting your number of sexual partners.

Who is most likely to get chlamydia?
Both women and men are affected by the disease; however, younger women and those with multiple sexual partners are at a higher risk for infection.

How can people who have chlamydia avoid spreading it?
People with chlamydia can avoid spreading the disease by abstaining from sexual activity until they have completed treatment with antibiotics.
