Would a doctor looking at a urine sample for a UTI be able to tell if you had chlamydia? |
I went in and got tested for a UTI. The doctor said that I didn't have much bacteria in the urine sample, but she went ahead and gave me an antibiotic prescription, anyway. If I had chlamydia, would she have noticed it while looking for the UTI? I only wonder because I found out not long ago that my ex-boyfriend cheated, I don't really have any other symptoms except I feel like I have to pee a lot, even when I don't have to go. It's never really painful or anything. Chlamydia does not show up on a urinalysis. To check for chlamydia, the doctor does a swab from within your vagina. Your symptoms sound like you have a UTI, and from what you said there are bacteria present in your urine, which is highly indicative of a UTI, even if there aren't that many. Your doctor was right to treat you with an antibiotic (SMZ-TMP?) since you're having symptoms, so keep taking it and hopefully your symptoms will go away. If you're worried about the possibility of chlamydia, just ask your doctor, and she will do a swab for it. They usually check for gonorrhea and chlamydia at the same time, so don't be surprised if they do a test for that too. Hope you feel better soon, and know that there are also antibiotics for gonorrhea and chlamydia if one of the tests comes back positive. So don't be afraid to go back and get it checked if you're worried! Source(s): I'm a 3rd year medical student The doctor can't tell what bacteria exactly it is. The urinalysis only shows if bacteria is present or not. If your sysmptoms don't improve with the antibiotic that you were given, you'll have to be honest about your boyfriend cheating on you and the bacteria will have to be cultured to see what exactly you really have. The feeling like you need to pee and not being able to is a symptom of UTI's...Drink cranberry juice. And no, I don't think they're going to see chlamydia unless they're looking for it. Yes they can see just about germ affecting you're private area in urine. they can even see aids in you're urine. I cheated before too & my girl swears she started itching & burning the same day even though I didnt notice anything & was clean. So maybee the vagina cleans itself after awhile. Having to pee alot & not peeing but a drop is a sign of a uti. So the doc probably gave you whatever they treat uti's with. No Iam an obstetrician |
