Hi, hello! A question about lowering cholesterol?

My mum wants me to help her fix meals to lower her cholesterol, so what foods are good for lowering cholesterol and what foods are to be avoided to lower cholesterol?

Many thanks!

Avoid red meat (don't get rid of all of it, just the majority). No soda. Eat chicken and fish. Don't deep fry ANYTHING. Drink water. Eat veggies and fruits. When getting hamburger, go for the leaner stuff. Drink 2% or lower fat milk. These sort of things worked for my father.

oatmeal or cheerios for breakfast is supposed to help a lot...and exercise of course. I believe both quaker oat and cheerios advertise a 6 week challenge on their commercials.

I agree with the first answer. Egg yolks are pretty high in cholesterol, too, so that's something to keep in mind. Generally stay away from things that have high fat content, because cholesterol often comes with it. Butter has cholesterol as well. However, stick margarine has trans fat, so stay away from that as an alternative. Spreadable margarine is usually a good idea.

Also, saturated fat helps to raise cholesterol, so just maintain a respectable low-fat diet. It's possible to ditch the fried foods and still have tasty food-- look up some good recipes. Good luck! :)

Eat less hamburger, cheese & eggs.

Good-
soy, fish, tea, oats, peas, and olive oil
It is recommended that fish should be eaten at least two times a week in order to receive the full benefits associated with fish oil. Fish such as sardines and salmon are a good source
oatmeal or oat bran.
Chinese red yeast rice
Green tea, oolong tea
pecans, pistachios, and walnuts
blueberries
red wine and beer

Bad-
fried foods, red meats and dairy products
Sea foods such as shrimp and lobster
bacon sausage salami
take aways and processed foods
cakes, biscuits and pastries, coconut oil and palm oil.
