How do you lower high cholesterol?

My mom has high cholesterol...I'm kinda worried.
I told her that she should reduce it by exercising, but she said she can't because her knees hurt when she does.
The bad part is, my mom thinks that it's a good thing to eat a bit of everything...even fast food. No...that's not right. She said that she SHOULD eat a bit of everything. But that's not true...your body doesn't need fast food.

Right now, I'm looking for ways to help my mom reduce her high cholesterol. Is there certain foods she can eat to help reduce it? I don't think cherrios would work because she doesn't like milk and cereal. Thanks for your help!

Start eating more fresh fruit.

A bit of fast food now and then doesn't hurt anybody.
There's all kinds of exercise she can do, including seated, or swimming, or floor, or whatever.
Exercise is the most important because it burns fat.
Get her one of those mini-trampolines and have her walk in place on it a half hour a day, plus do small hand weights.

diet plays big part but if high she should see GP and will be put on medication to lower it

It depends on the level of cholesterol to decide if you need medications or just food control with exercise?

Ok, let us talk about food and exercise:

Food:

Olive oil reduces cholesterol.
Corn and sunflower not increase cholesterol.

Vegetables and fruits are very important but take care of those with high cholesterol content or high calories.
So green salad is very useful.

Use skimmed milk and yoghurt, low fat cheese.
Eggs not more than 3 weekly (boiled not fried to avoid more oil), and if you stop eating egg for 2 months will help more.
Eat red meet (I mean without whit fatty parts).

Avoid excessive carbohydrates (ex.: bread, rice, macaroni), know that sugar can converted in our bodies to fat which do as cholesterol.
Avoid peanuts.
Avoid fat in chickens and fish.
Avoid see foods for a period of time.

Exercise:

Using knees correctly will reduces hurt, you can start walking gradually begin with 10 minutes a day then increase it bit by bit.

Other exercises (which not depend on knees) are available, if you do it properly it will give a very good effect.

Bonus, every body functions and systems will be improved by exercising, even mind. Also it gives psychic relief. So you will gain more than what you aim.

Otherwise you may need doctor advice and medications if the cholesterol level is very high or you can't go with food control and exercise.
