Ok my husband had to have blood work done last week. His doctor called today and told him that his cholesterol and blood pressure are very high and that he wants him to come back in 14 days. Can anyone give us tips to lower this cholesterol problem in a quick manner. We would also like a list of foods that he should be eating...I bought some cherios and yogurt and someother things tonight that were low.
What we find is strange about this whole thing is that we dont eat much meat in our house. We eat alot of chicken and hamburg, but we buy 80/20 lean. I know that high cholesterol comes from eating meat, this just doesnt make sense to me for people who dont particularly like meat.
Thanks for any help or tips.. he is only 34, yes he smokes and drinks alcohol. If he eats eggs, the cholesterol is in the yolk, so tell him to just eat white eggs. Also, limit the amount of red meat.
Exercise is always helpful and increase fruits and veggies. Get off dairy...switch to Soy Milk right now...Oat meal for breakfast and have him take Red Yeast Rice tablets daily. dont eat fatty foods...take 5-8 almonds a day, it boosts the good cholesterol in the body I'd say that high blood pressure is a lot more serious than high cholesterol. And decreasing that high blood pressure should be his first priority.
There are some drugs that lower cholesterol and blood pressure. And his doctor will probably prescribe these drugs for him.
Regular excercise and moderation in calorie intake are both important in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. favorites831 answer is the only one that so far talks any sense.
The first thing you need to know is that cholesterol does not cause CHD. It is sometimes associated with it, Yes, But it does not cause it, So many people have trouble understanding the difference between cause and association. High cholesterol is a symptom of CHD, not a cause.
Your husband has high cholestrol and blood pressure. These are both symptoms of a serious disease that your husband suffers. You need to get to the cause, not the symptoms. Lowering cholesterol will not protect you from CHD, the ENHANCE trial showed this.
Some people have trouble believing that what they jhave been told is wrong, but you said

So what you have been told about cholesterol is wrong. It is not a cause. You are wasting your time by concentrating on lowering cholesterol. You must address the cause.
Statins which is the way to go to lower cholesterol, reduce coronary events, but make up for it in other ways of dying. They only benefit those that have already had a heart attack, or elderly men who have diabetes. Satins have other effects besides lowering cholesterol, inc anti inflammatory and possibly ant oxident. For all those, except mentioned above, the side effects more than, or counter any gain.
Most important
GIVE UP SMOKING
I have more info on cholesterol here.

Cheers This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. It explains why support is so important to a loved one with heart disease. It also offers practical strategies on how to support a loved one while also taking care of yourself. He, and you, need to drop beef entirely from your diet for awhile. Only chicken breast meat, no skin.
He needs to stop smoking, and drinking a lot less. He can keep one or two drinks a day. An hour a day of exercise he can tolerate easily, but not too easy, will help bring it down a some, but not much in 14 days.
But some people just have them high. Statistically they lead to more illness for many people, including heart attacks.
It will take more than Cheerios and yogurt.
The book "Longevity Made Simple" will lay out everything you should consider. first of all dont eat alot of eggs unless yellow yolk removed. hers a trick: eat quakers oatmeal for atleast 30 days and cholestorol will be removed.=] and heres how to be healthy with that too:
Above all, don't smoke. Cigarette smoke is a toxic cocktail of around 70 cancer-causing chemicals and hundreds of other poisons. Smoking is the single biggest cause of cancer in the world. In the UK, smoking accounts for one in four cancer deaths and kills five times more people than road accidents, overdoses, murder, suicide and HIV all put together.
Eat at roughly the same times each day. This might be two, three or more times but a routine encourages a reasonable weight.
Watch your portions. Don't heap food on your plate (except for vegetables) and think twice before having second helpings.
Try to have five portions of fruit and vegatables a day. A portion is about 80g of fruit or vegetables. This is roughly equal to an apple, orange, banana, or similarly-sized fruit or two serving spoons of cooked vegetables such as broccoli or carrots.
Eat foods with reduced fat. Choose reduced fat versions of foods such as dairy products, spreads and salad dressings. Cut fat off meat.
Eat foods with reduced salt. Too much salt can increase your blood pressure and your risk of heart disease and stroke.
Eat healthier snacks. If you're hungry between meals, choose a healthy option such as fresh fruit or low calorie yogurts instead of chocolate or crisps.
Look at food labels. Choose food with less far, sugar and salt content.
Think about how you eat. Eat your meals at the table and it will help you focus on the amount of food you eat. Eat slowly because it takes time for your body to register how much food you've eaten and how full you are. Don鈥檛 eat while walking, but wait until you get there and take time to concentrate on what you are eating.
Think about what you drink. Water is good (but eight glasses a day is not necessary - for discussion click here). Semi-skimmed milk is good too. Many soft drinks (including fizzy and sweetened soft drinks) contain a lot of sugar. Alcohol is high in calories.
Walk every day. The aim should be to do around 10,000 steps which equates to around 60-90 minutes of walking. Using a pedometer on a belt is a good way to monitor this. On the way to or from work, shops, or meetings, leave the car or public transport a bit short of your destination. and dont sit too much, excercise. He should drink a 12 pack of budweiser and eat a mountain of fried mozzarella sticks. my pap makes these muffens with alot of oats in them and he got rid of most salt from his diet and eats oatmeal for every breakfast also he started exersizing cardio and arobics, that worked for him high cholesterol does not come from eating meat....go to the library and check out this book

Being obese increases the bad cholesterol levels in the blood. At least 4 days of exercise is necessary to maintain a good cholesterol level. Lowering bad cholesterol is very necessary for a healthy body.
Exercises like Tai Chi and Yoga have proved to be beneficial in promoting good cholesterol in the body. Deep breathing and stretching exercises helps the blood flow to all parts of the body. Meditation helps in preventing hardening of the arteries. If proper food and exercise is maintained then the cholesterol levels could come down drastically.

Cholesterol is caused by diet and lack of exercise, however, it can run in families (genes) so a good diet and exercise may not be enough.
Your doctor should tell you this with your next appointment and explain what will be done to help out.
