How does a statin help with cholesterol? Does it desolve it or prevent it? no they dont desolve it. statins alters cholesterol synthesis. which means new cholesterol cannot be produced by the body. the body is forced to used the cholesterol found in the blood. thus decreasing blood cholesterol level. cholesterol also plays a factor in our body.but we only need few of them. too much can accumulate in the blood. which is bad for the blood vessels. statin + proper exercise will decrease blood cholesterol level. plus intake of omega3 rich foods such as fish.omega 3 is good cholesterol. The statins (or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors) form a class of hypolipidemic drugs used to lower cholesterol levels in people with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. They lower cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is the rate-limiting enzyme of the mevalonate pathway of cholesterol synthesis. Inhibition of this enzyme in the liver stimulates LDL receptors, resulting in an increased clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the bloodstream and a decrease in blood cholesterol levels. The first results can be seen after one week of use and the effect is maximal after four to six weeks. |
