Treatment for high blood pressure & cholesterol?

I am 63 yrs of age and have a blood pressure of 160/10 and cholesterol level of 300 (HDL 47, LDL 218, VLDL 35 & Triglyceride 175)
what is the best treatment and diet ?

Along with medicine provided by your doctor you can help yourself by doing pranayam(bhramri pranayam for high bp) for which take help of ramdev baba and take 2 garlic pill empty stomach and also have juice of lauki half a glass empty stomach avoid oil ghee etc and walk for half an hour daily

Eat a diet that is well-balanced and low in saturated fat. The primary cause of high cholesterol comes from the unhealthy foods you eat. Foods that are high in saturated fat--such as butter, cheese and whole milk--are the worst offenders for causing high cholesterol. Generally, all foods that are of animal origin have the highest amount of cholesterol.

Drink a moderate amount of alcohol. One or two glasses of wine or beer a day has been shown to lower bad and raise good cholesterol levels.

Know why you are taking all prescribed medications. If your doctor has prescribed a medication to lower and manage your cholesterol levels, take it as prescribed. Ask your doctor about any side effects.

Quit smoking. Cigarette smoking lowers HDL cholesterol levels and is directly responsible for approximately 20 percent of all deaths from heart disease.

Control your weight. Not only does being overweight raise your total blood cholesterol levels, it also throws your cholesterol levels out of whack by boosting levels of LDL cholesterol and lowering levels of HDL cholesterol. It also increases your risk for heart disease by raising blood pressure and straining the heart.

UK guidelines are that medication should be started when an individual's risk of coronary disease is greater than 30 per cent over 10 years.

Statins (eg simvastatin, atorvastatin, rosuvastatin) are the most effective medicines for lowering cholesterol. These reduce the production of 'bad' LDL cholesterol by the liver, which decreases LDL cholesterol blood levels by up to 50 per cent.

Although statins are normally very effective, non-statin treatments such as Ezetrol (ezetimibe) are available if there are any problems with side-effects such as muscle pains. These can also be used in conjunction with statins if cholesterol levels remain high, or if a high level of statin causes side effects. Older treatments also exist such as fibrates which can be very effective when used in conjunction with more modern treatments.

Maintain a healthy weight.
# Get regular exercise.
# Avoid using too much sodium.
# Get enough potassium, calcium, and magnesium in your diet.
# Limit alcohol use.
# Stop smoking.
# Use anti-inflammatory medicines wisely.
# Learn to check your blood pressure at home.

# Reduce stress.
# Follow the nutrition guidelines for hypertension (including the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, or DASH, diet)

Hi,
you can start by lowering your sodium (salt) and of course your cholesterol intake, try yo use olive oil and watch very carefully what you eat outside because of its fat content; if you do this all that fat that can be inside your arteries will start coming out and this will ease your heart's workload thus lowering your blood pressure..
also try to be as active as possible, take a walk at least once a day ride a bike etc.
last, try to quit smoking in case you do. if not great for you because is one less thing to worry about.

I hope this helps, Good luck

If your blood pressure was 160/10 you would be dead. Eat only fruits and vegetables and exercise

Cougar is right, BP at 160/10, you are a dead man. 160 is ok but your diastole is too low.
