Cutting back on dietary steroids may not reduce your blood cholesterol level. Why?

Cutting back on dietary steroids may not reduce your blood cholesterol level. Why?

I assume by dietary steroids you mean cholesterol content in food.

Simply, your liver synthesizes and breaks down more than ten times as much cholesterol as you take in daily. The overwhelming majority of cholesterol molecules in the body are synthesized by the liver in response to perceived need by the rest of the body. What you're eating in your diet makes up an incredibly small proportion.

Your cholesterol level is a function of primarily 2 things-

1. Diet
2. Genetics.

If you have a strong family history of high cholesterol yet manage a relatively low cholesterol diet you can still have elevated cholesterol.

Hope that helps. Not sure what you mean by steroids.
