My cholesterol level was 191 on my blood test. Do I need to go to the ER?

My doctor took a blood test from me and told me it was high but not high enough to worry about. I am a very paranoid person and I was wondering if I do indeed need to go to the ER and if this guy is a quack.

You might want to ask your doctor...and consider how high your blood pressure is and what other risks you may have for heart disease...overweight, history of heart disease, etc...
but 191 is below 200 which is usually where you want it to be...
You also need to look at the LDL and HDL bad and good cholesterol.. and triglycerides. Exercise helps the good cholesterol

You may need to have your cholesterol checked more often than every five years if one or more of these situations applies to you:

Your total cholesterol is 200 mg/dL or more.
You are a man over age 45 or a woman over age 50.
Your HDL (good) cholesterol is less than 40 mg/dL.
You have other risk factors for heart disease and stroke.

You do not need to go to the ER just because your cholesterol is 191. It is slightly high but not enough for you to be worried about. You can most likely get it lowered yourself by exercising and eating a better diet. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water. Don't eat a lot of carbs, and don't eat a lot of junk food that is high in saturated fat. Read all food labels carefully and watch saturated and trans fats.
My husband takes Lipitor, but his level is 213. So you are o.k. Just need to be careful and you can lower it yourself. My total cholesterol (good and bad) is 139. That is excellent. I eat oat meal every single morning, and I have been eating oatmeal since I was 2 years old. The doctor says that is probably why mine is so good. So eat oatmeal - it is excellent for lowering cholesterol, as is cheerios. Here is a web page that will help you. Stop worrying about it. You will be fine.

Get another test done by another doctor 191 for L D L cholesterol is high and at a dangerous level. Stop eating saturated fats- (animal fats.) Have a doctor put you on medication to bring it down. I have found drinking a small glass of red wine each night will help lower L D L level Don't wind up like i did having a stint put in .

No!
ER docs do not want to see you if you are not bleeding, broken, shot, stabbed or having a heart attack. those conditions are why they became ER docs. your lipid level is not an emergency...diet and exercise will change your numbers.

eat some cheerios(:

Most older people worry when theirs is at 250+ so you're good. Below 200 is still in the normal range.

Normal cholesterol is up to 200 mg/dl. It is OK.

Go to another doctor and ask his opinion. 191 seems like a lot.

No that's not that high, give me a break.

NO!!! My dad has that in the 200s dont worry about it.

u might want to just to be safe normal cholesterol should be at 140

no you need a diet
