Cholesterol 2.6......?

Hi, I visited my Doc yesterday for some blood results and he seemed quite concerned that my Cholesterol level was 2.6. Says it the lowest hes ever seen and is sending me for more tests. Is it a sign of something or should I be concerned.?

The normal is 3.5 to 6.5 mmol/L (ideal <5.2 mmol/L).
(Multiply into 39 to get mg/dL)
Abnormally low levels of cholesterol are termed hypocholesterolemia. Research into the causes of this state is relatively limited, and while some studies suggest a link with depression, cancer and cerebral hemorrhage it is unclear whether the low cholesterol levels are a cause for these conditions or an epiphenomenon (Wikipedia)
Hypolipidemia is a decrease in plasma lipoprotein caused by primary (genetic) or secondary factors. It is usually asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally on routine lipid screening. Treatment of secondary hypolipidemia involves treating underlying causes. Treatment of primary hypolipidemia is often unnecessary, but patients with some genetic disorders require high-dose vitamin E.(Merck)

i'm from another country so we measure things differently, but 2.6 sounds too high. As far as I know, 2 is the healthy maximum.
