Caffeine before a blood test for cholesterol?

i just found out my goof of a partner has been having coffee (usually just a cup) when he's supposed to be fasting for a blood test to check his cholesterol levels. will the caffeine skew the results of the test?

Caffeine/coffee won't really raise lipids or affect the lipid profile prior to the test. We are primarily concerned with food because it can obviously impact lipids and tryglycerides directly before a lipid panel.

shouldn't do, but mention it just in case.

Yes!!!!!!!Also he needs to drink water only before a blood test (fasting or not) it hydrates your body and "plumps" your veins.caffeine de-hydrates you!

To get accurate results, you should not eat or drink anything for 9 to 12 hours before the test. You may drink water, but other beverages such as coffee, tea, or soda should be avoided.

Fasting means FASTING...
You never know if it will really affect it or not...but why chance it? If you're going to go to the trouble of having these tests done....do them RIGHT...otherwise, don't do them at all...save EVERYONE the hassel and work....
