Is it possible that I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and what kind of doctor should I see? |
I have been struggling with fatigue and other symptoms for nearly two years now, and despite having many blood tests run, have not been given a specific diagnosis. I don't drink any diet sodas or consume any caffine or artificial sweeteners. Most doctors do not have a clue when it comes to chronic fatigue. See a gastroenterologist Do you drink Diet Cokes or Diet Beverages...if so you need to stop...it is the aspartame in the sugar that causes this...there are many other things that it could be but i heard about this recently and they are misdiagnosing people with multiple sclerosis when all they need to do is simply stop drinking diet drinks...if you dont then i would suggest you tell the doctors they need to find out what is wrong with you that is their job@@ Ask your regular doctor and he will recommend someone good to take a look at you.Good luck. You sound like you have hypothyroid with adrenal fatigue. The hair loss is a big thing here. Both leave you exhausted, but the adrenal dysfunction can really hit you with anxiety and profound fatigue. You need to have your *free* T3 checked and *free* T4 along with TSH, B12, a.m. cortisol. fT3 and fT4 should be at the top of range and so should morning cortisol. Hi. It is possible that you could have CFS. Because you have had a bout of mononucleosis, this in itself can produce long standing symptoms of fatigue, along with variable other symptoms. A physician you may want to start with is an Internal Medicine Doc. When your blood work is done, it may be adviseable to ask if you have a positive epstein barr. This is the virus that can be responsible for causing symptoms of CFS. It is usually positive when mono is diagnosed. (the epstein barr virus). Mono is a virus, and this virus (positive epstein barr) is usually present in those presenting with symptoms of CFS. It would probably be adviseable to inquire about the possibility of any other autoimmune disorders such as alopecia areata, which is hair loss or balding in random areas of the scalp. Rheumatoid arthritis is also another autoimmune disorder which causes joint pain and inflammation. Although ANA presense may indicate lupus, which is another autoimmune disorder, it does not rule out other autoimmune disorders. Thyroid function tests are another possibility to get checked out, if not done already. The thyroid gland can wreak havoc on energy levels, hair loss, weight loss and gain, and a conglomerate of other symptoms. Do not be afraid to ask questions. The Doctor is there to provide answers. Jot your questions down, and question any possibilities. CFS can mimic a host of other disorders, and I would defineately not rule out that CFS may be a cause of some of your symptoms. Good Luck, and do not be afraid to ask questions. It's possible that you have CFIDS or some other immune or autoimmune illness. The onset is often after a viral illness like mono. It sounds as if your Mono has remained in a sub-acute but permanent state, which is called Epstein-Barr Virus or EBV. It is also possible you have another virus or bacterial infection that contributes to your symptoms. Get a Dr that will let you get a Vitamin d test... Have them test 25 and 125 levels if they are outside of about 10-15% difference contact me and I will tell you the exact Dr to goto...lets say one level is 7 the other should be like a 5 or 6 much more diff then that and you need help. Well good luck and hit me up for more info... Doubled, It is wonderful that you do not have lupus! Savor that. Rheumatologists can often diagnose CFS. If you like this doctor, stick with her. It takes time to eliminate all other possibilities, the first step in a CFS diagnosis. It is a diagnosis of exclusion. You might have something treatable. If you are not satisfied with this doctor, then try for a good internist who understands CFS, and will work with you. Meanwhile, take good care of yourself, take note of your daily activities, how they change. Waiting for a diagnosis is very trying, or was for me. I have had CFS for many years, am not a doctor, so will not comment on your test results. There are web sites with helpful information on CFS, if that helps you talk with your doctor. Good luck. |
