Is it possible that I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and what kind of doctor should I see?

I have been struggling with fatigue and other symptoms for nearly two years now, and despite having many blood tests run, have not been given a specific diagnosis.

In 2006 I had a bad bout of mononucleosis, and since then I have experienced hair and weight loss, extreme exhaustion, anxiety, joint pain, and irregular and painful menstration among other issues.

Within the last month I've had multiple blood tests, showing I have an ANA count of 1:80, a C4 complement count of 15, and an absolute eosinophil count of 1037. Based on those resulsts, my rhumetoligist decided to run some more ANA screens, and found that I have a ds-DNA of 7, but no other autoantibodies. Because of this, she is sure I do not have lupus.

Still, I am aware because of both my blood tests and physical symptoms that something is wrong and I am desperate for a diagnosis.

Is it possible that I have CFS and what kind of doctor should I go to who can review both my tests and symptoms to make a diagnosis?

I don't drink any diet sodas or consume any caffine or artificial sweeteners.

Most doctors do not have a clue when it comes to chronic fatigue.

There is a new treatment in the underground of alternative health products, that is really inexpensive and may do the trick for you. MMS should take care of it in a month or so. You will find testimonials on it here:

This has also helped people with chronic fatigue that started with mono. Do further searches on it and you will find more info. It is an herbal product that boosts the immune system

See a gastroenterologist

Do you drink Diet Cokes or Diet Beverages...if so you need to stop...it is the aspartame in the sugar that causes this...there are many other things that it could be but i heard about this recently and they are misdiagnosing people with multiple sclerosis when all they need to do is simply stop drinking diet drinks...if you dont then i would suggest you tell the doctors they need to find out what is wrong with you that is their job@@

Ask your regular doctor and he will recommend someone good to take a look at you.Good luck.

You sound like you have hypothyroid with adrenal fatigue. The hair loss is a big thing here. Both leave you exhausted, but the adrenal dysfunction can really hit you with anxiety and profound fatigue. You need to have your *free* T3 checked and *free* T4 along with TSH, B12, a.m. cortisol. fT3 and fT4 should be at the top of range and so should morning cortisol.

You can order a 24-hour saliva test online which checks your cortisol four times out of the day - this is important because it shows what your cells are actually USING as opposed to what's in the blood. If you have low numbers, there's cortisol replacement that you can use. This will also help you use your thyroid hormone better and make sure your other hormones are fine.

Proper treatment can also get rid of the joint pain.

It's really hard to find a doc who will address adrenal dysfunction and who will test and treat based on anything other than TSH (which is NOT a thyroid hormone). D.O.'s tend to be more open to this and naturopathic doctors.

You CAN feel better!

Hi. It is possible that you could have CFS. Because you have had a bout of mononucleosis, this in itself can produce long standing symptoms of fatigue, along with variable other symptoms. A physician you may want to start with is an Internal Medicine Doc. When your blood work is done, it may be adviseable to ask if you have a positive epstein barr. This is the virus that can be responsible for causing symptoms of CFS. It is usually positive when mono is diagnosed. (the epstein barr virus). Mono is a virus, and this virus (positive epstein barr) is usually present in those presenting with symptoms of CFS. It would probably be adviseable to inquire about the possibility of any other autoimmune disorders such as alopecia areata, which is hair loss or balding in random areas of the scalp. Rheumatoid arthritis is also another autoimmune disorder which causes joint pain and inflammation. Although ANA presense may indicate lupus, which is another autoimmune disorder, it does not rule out other autoimmune disorders. Thyroid function tests are another possibility to get checked out, if not done already. The thyroid gland can wreak havoc on energy levels, hair loss, weight loss and gain, and a conglomerate of other symptoms. Do not be afraid to ask questions. The Doctor is there to provide answers. Jot your questions down, and question any possibilities. CFS can mimic a host of other disorders, and I would defineately not rule out that CFS may be a cause of some of your symptoms. Good Luck, and do not be afraid to ask questions.

It's possible that you have CFIDS or some other immune or autoimmune illness. The onset is often after a viral illness like mono.

See my site at http://www.fms-help.com - my CFIDS story is at http://www.fms-help.com/fatigue.htm if you want to compare symptoms.

I sure hope your doc will be able to provide you with a diagnosis soon - it helps to know what you are battling. If it is CFIDS (or possibly FMS), you will find a lot of help and support on my site.

It sounds as if your Mono has remained in a sub-acute but permanent state, which is called Epstein-Barr Virus or EBV. It is also possible you have another virus or bacterial infection that contributes to your symptoms.

A Rheumatologist can treat some symptoms, but you should see a doctor specializing in internal medicine or infectious disease to perform more testing, get a positive diagnosis and correct treatment.

Many doctors with outdated knowledge are unfamiliar with the cause of chronic fatigue. It is hard to find Dr's familiar with this disease, but an internet search is a start.

Also join the Yahoo Group for CFS-ME-Fibromyalgia, and you could find someone near you who can refer you to a local Dr. Good luck, and get lots of rest.

Get a Dr that will let you get a Vitamin d test... Have them test 25 and 125 levels if they are outside of about 10-15% difference contact me and I will tell you the exact Dr to goto...lets say one level is 7 the other should be like a 5 or 6 much more diff then that and you need help. Well good luck and hit me up for more info...

Doubled, It is wonderful that you do not have lupus! Savor that. Rheumatologists can often diagnose CFS. If you like this doctor, stick with her. It takes time to eliminate all other possibilities, the first step in a CFS diagnosis. It is a diagnosis of exclusion. You might have something treatable. If you are not satisfied with this doctor, then try for a good internist who understands CFS, and will work with you. Meanwhile, take good care of yourself, take note of your daily activities, how they change. Waiting for a diagnosis is very trying, or was for me. I have had CFS for many years, am not a doctor, so will not comment on your test results. There are web sites with helpful information on CFS, if that helps you talk with your doctor. Good luck.
