I was just prescribed Provigil for possible Chronic Fatigue Syndrome...is it safe? |
I am coming off of Cymbalta and dealing with a myriad of hellish detoxing symptoms...they took me off the Cymbalta because they thought it MAY be causing fatigue. Fatigue still there so they want me to try Provigil. After my Cymbalta withdrawal nightmare (which is almost over) I am leary about any kind of drug...does this stuff work? I gotta get back to my life (work, son, house, etc) and out of bed, but I am kind of nervous about this drug...any advice? I would not consider Provigil to be a safe drug. That said most people have few problems with it but the side effects can be serious. It can be taken safely if you familiarize yourself with the possible side effects and make sure that it is monitored by your doctor. cymbalta and celaxa are both nightmares to recover from. provigil will be hard to stop taking but if you keep your dosages low it shouldnt be a problem. now, many of these have the same effect as antidepressants and bring you down to a big old not wanting to do anything state of mind, so while taking it try upping your intake of b12, its water soluble so what your body dont need it will pee out. it will boost your energy until you get adjusted to the meds. HI, I also was taken provigil & trying to work. For the most part in the beginning it did work well. I would take 4 a day, but months down the road, even after I would take my 2 in the am I found my self falling asleep at my desk a few hrs. later. I also found out that it is a very expensive drug.(I was quoated around $700.00) if you have no insurance, which I ran out of. I now take Phentermine which works alright to get me thru the day.(5-6) hrs. and is alot cheaper. I hope you find what works for you, please let me know!! I have mentioned Provigil in my FMS/CFIDS newsletter. Go to http://www.fms-help.com/newsletters.htm - type Provigil in the search box. When you get to the page you want, hit ALT-F and type Provigil in the FIND box, and it will take you to the exact place on the page. I have had CFIDS since 1987 - my story is at http://www.fms-help.com/fatigue.htm - There is no cure, but I use a combo of meds and supplements to manage my condition - my current list is at http://www.fms-help.com/what.htm |
