Is this chronic fatigue syndrome or mono? |
I had a bout with hypochondria for a few weeks, and supposedly a sinus infection and a stomach bug. This all happened at once, and now I feel surprisingly fatigued. I am able to stay up between 12 and 18 hours a day, depending on what I've done and how much sleep I got the night before, but I feel sleepy and lightheaded at times during the day. Also, I seem to get mild headaches around my sinuses every few days, usually in the evening, which can be treated with Tylenol. I have symptoms of IBS as well (i.e. sometimes I have a BM once a day, others twice or three times, on and off thin stools, cramping relieved by a BM, excessive gas after eating). I get muscle aches and sometimes joint aches that Tylenol can resolve, and coffee seems to have no effect on me. I haven't lost any weight recently, nor have I had any migraines, but I have had mild ear pain (though it was worse when I had a sore throat). I never got tested for mono, and most of the symptoms I had when I was sick (sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes, diarrhea, postnasal drip, sharp stomach pain, and malaise) have dwindled. I know many of my symptoms may reflect both mono and CFS, but I felt really s***ty for almost 4 weeks and feel much better, albeit still weird, now. I know fatigue after mono can last up to a few months, so am I getting worked up for no reason? Was this just mono? If not, is it CFS? Something else entirely? I had blood and urine tests done, and everything was normal, though my WBC count was 10.5 (the normal is 4 - 10.8, but I was stressed when I got my blood work). My Dr. and the college health center both told me the same thing and didn't check for mono, but my symptoms kinda happened at different times (my stomach pains, fever, and nausea were first and went away before my sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes, postnasal drip, and earaches occurred - this all happened within 3 and a half weeks - and then that all went away before I started getting headaches). You could still have mono, but I'm surprised your Dr. didn't test for this to obtain a diagnosis. If you have been diagnosed with "hypochondria', your Dr. thinks your symptoms are all in your head. In the early stages, almost all inflammatory conditions show similar symptoms. Don't play doctor. While your body heals, be nice to it. Drink plenty of plain water, eat some 'green', leafy foods, no fried or greasy foods, try Chinese foods. Try to keep regular hours. |
