How does one cope with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

How does one cope with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Drink an abundance of green tea/coffee! lol

Seriously:

Unfortunately, (at this time, but research is showing progress) there is no effective treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome. Even though there is no specific treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome itself, you may find it quite helpful to treat your symptoms. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, may help get rid of any body aches or fever, and nonsedating antihistamines may help relieve any prominent allergic symptoms, such as runny nose.

Learning how to manage your fatigue may help you improve the level at which you can function and your quality of life despite your symptoms. A rehabilitation medicine specialist can evaluate and teach you how to plan activities to take advantage of times when you usually feel better.

The lack of any proven effective treatment can be frustrating to both you and your doctors. If you have chronic fatigue syndrome, health experts recommend that you try to maintain good health by:

>Eating a balanced diet and getting adequate rest
>Exercising regularly but without causing more fatigue
>Pacing yourself -- physically, emotionally and intellectually -- because too much stress can aggravate your symptoms.

The course of chronic fatigue syndrome varies from patient to patient. For most people, chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms plateau early in the course of illness and thereafter wax and wane. Some people get better completely, but it is not clear how frequently this happens. Emotional support and counseling can help you and your loved ones cope with the uncertain outlook and the ups and downs of this illness.

New studies seem to show that cognitive behavioral therapy and graduated exercise programs can greatly help many. Others are helped by antidepressants.

Do not be timid to discuss anything with YOUR doctor (if doc is a General Practioner and does not feel knowledgable about this syndrome, request a referral). I suggest an Internal Medicine doctor or perhaps a specialist.

Also, don't forget to utilize your public libraries for free information.

Some doctors prescribe a drug called elevil, which is an anti depressant, so that your body gets more deep delta sleep, but the side effects are weight gain....I am thinking of trying acupuncture.
It something that science has come to accept to some degree. It's probably harder to treat than it has been to diagnose. In a nut shell...I have no idea
I don't know sleep on it. No just joking. Here' what they say

The people with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) who have the best chance of improvement are those who remain as active as possible and who seek to have some control over their illness. A therapist can help you do that. You may believe that any activity that causes fatigue will make your illness worse. You may be afraid to expend energy for fear of having a relapse. You may have convinced yourself that there is nothing you can do to help yourself. Many people with CFS feel hopeless.

Because a cognitive-behavioral therapist helps you work on your thinking patterns and on the way you react to problems, you can learn to let go of misguided beliefs and fears about CFS that may be contributing to your inactivity and despair. With therapy you can learn how to calm your mind and your body so that you can feel better, think more clearly, and make better decisions.

I cope with it by ignoring western medicine and getting acupuncture.

I had chronic fatigue syndrome for a year and a half. Other than the ability to name it, Western medicine has nothing to offer. I had blood work and consulted several doctors, including my brother and my sister-in-law (I had lots of access to practitioners of western medicine). They did nothing.

I went to an acupuncturist four times over two weeks, and I feel much better.
