How do you decide if a new drug or procedure is safe enough to use?
A clinical trial is designed to catch these unknown effects and ensure the drug does what it says. That's while people in drug tests or vaccine tests get blood tests and examines often.

Without clinical trials people may waste money on non-effective drugs. Look at all the diet supplements that get around being clinically tests by claiming they are food and not subject to FDA requirements.

In a clicnial trial, the tester must make a discolsure to the subjects about possible adverse reactions. But adverse reactions occur all the time with well know meds and procedures. Thats why a consent form lets you know that death is a possiblity in any surgery. Even well know procedures such as Appendectomy, tonsilectomy, etc

Clincial trials also have procedures to abort the trial if adverse reactions occur more often than expected and in some cases when the results are so remarkable as to justify early stopping.

depends...do you want to end up looking like a monkey for a quick 50$?

I am fighting kidney cancer and believe that if the "tried and true" methods don't work, a trial may be the only alternative. The only drawback is I don't want to be given a placebo. I don't believe in giving up, so you do whatever it takes.

Yes
It's not about the money, it's about helping others and to find cures.
